The National Weather Service Houston/Galveston will soon lose all of its leadership staff because of President Trump's staffing cuts.
It's Hurricane Preparedness Week and it's time to ask how the agency plans to continue providing critical services amid these cuts.
With hurricane season around the corner, I am hosting a webinar on the 2025 hurricane season outlook and preparedness.

Democrats know that basic needs programs like Medicaid and SNAP are lifelines for working families.
On today’s Democratic Daily Download, @repjohnnyo.bsky.social breaks down how the Republican budget cuts these programs and hurts everyday Americans.
As Congress prepares to debate the future of Medicaid, I want to hear from #TX07 residents about how Medicaid has impacted your life or the life of someone you know. Share your story with me: forms.gle/DD7C7P1NFG9W...
In the last 6 years, Texas has received nearly $4 billion in FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grants to help local gov & nonprofit organizations build more resilient communities.
Cutting this isn't just short-sighted—it's dangerous. Houstonians and people across our country deserve so much better.
As I said when it was issued, President Trump's executive order targeting the Smithsonian Institution is an affront to understanding our U.S. history and to generations of Americans. Glad to join @pressley.house.gov in demanding an investigation into the impacts of this dangerous order.
📉 GDP shrank by 0.3% in Q1 2025—a stark contrast from strong 2.4% growth in Q4 2024.
💸 Prices rose for the second straight quarter—jumping from 2.4% to 3.6%—and core inflation climbed to 3.5%.
Trump promised to fix the economy and lower prices—but costs keep soaring, and he’s making things worse.
President Trump inherited a strong economy — and in just 100 days, he’s driven it toward recession.
For decades, HHS has engaged with the public about policies that directly affect their lives and livelihoods. Now, the Trump administration wants to end that.
@amo.house.gov, @quigley.house.gov, and I introduced a resolution to reaffirm the importance of public engagement. ⬇️
During President Trump's first 100 days, House Republicans have rubber stamped his actions, even ones that are unconstitutional.
But courageous people are fighting these actions in courthouses across the country.
Our House Litigation Working Group is tracking these efforts here:
This is just the first of many disastrous cuts for our community in this budget reconciliation process in Congress so that Republicans can give tax cuts to billionaires rather than address the needs of the majority of Americans.
This vote to take away funding for this investment in the densest and hottest part of Houston is part of a much larger effort to divert Congressional funding from investments like these and funding for programs that our community relies on.
Houston benefitted from a $43 million grant award—much of it directed to #TX07's Gulfton community to build and repair sidewalks and plant trees for shade, to improve drainage, safety, and mobility, and to connect people.
Yesterday, House Republicans voted to take that money away.
🧵 Congress created the Neighborhood Access and Equity Grant Program as part of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022 to reconnect and improve communities.

When he was six years old, Leader Jeffries’ son Joshua explained that “debacle” means “something bad.”
On today’s Democratic Daily Download, @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social explains how the first 100 days of Donald Trump’s presidency have been a debacle for the American people.
Global immunizations saved 154 million lives in the last 50 years—that’s 1 life every 10 seconds, for 5 decades.
U.S. leadership made this progress possible. Vaccines can help us prevent cancer, stop polio, and beat malaria—but only if we invest in them. #WorldImmunizationWeek
As the House Democratic Co-Chairs of the American-Canadian Economy and Security (ACES) Caucus,
Rep. Veasey and I extend our congratulations to Prime Minister Mark Carney on his election victory and appointment as Canada's 24th Prime Minister.

What has Trump done to make Americans’ lives better in his first 100 days in office? Nothing.
In today’s Democratic Daily Download, @repbarragan.bsky.social recaps how Republicans are making life worse for Americans – raising costs and taking away health care to give tax breaks to billionaires.
President Trump and his special employee Elon Musk have created chaos at the Social Security Administration, closing offices and cutting staff. That means more waiting and uncertainty. I'm working to stop them.
