Enjoyed getting to meet some incredibly bright students from Kalama High School!
They asked great questions about energy infrastructure, ways to ensure Social Security sticks around, and how we can solve the worsening addiction crisis.
I never heard back – so I'm making the new VA Secretary aware of this problem and I'll keep working to make this a reality.
After the Chehalis VA clinic closed, Lewis County veterans have faced challenges accessing timely care nearby.
Under the last Administration, I hand-delivered my letter and a petition with 16,650 signatures twice to the VA urging them to reopen the clinic. ⬇️
Since our efforts, I'm glad to see reports of critical employees being reinstated – and I'll continue to closely monitor this situation for impacts to services our communities most rely on.
It's why we urged the Forest Service to reconsider cuts that could negatively impact local timber production, wildfire readiness, and recreation. ⬇️
We need to make our government a more effective steward of our tax dollars and more financially self-sufficient – such as through responsible timber harvest – but across-the-board cuts harm local knowledge of our woods and the safety of rural communities. ⬇️
It's also essential we remain fully staffed and ready ahead of fire season – not only by wildland firefighters, but also by those who support prevention activities and are certified to join fire lines. ⬇️
While the Administration’s order to jumpstart federal harvest will help revive rural economies, layoffs of hardworking folks who execute our timber sales will undermine that mission. ⬇️
Our timber communities have been hollowed out, with local schools and infrastructure suffering as a result.
We’ve seen consolidation of logging, trucking, and mills as big players can weather protracted litigation while mom-and-pop operations shutter. ⬇️
Hardworking folks across #WA03 deserve a federal government that works quickly and effectively – not slash and burn tactics that harm rural communities.
Thanks to @pahlkadot.bsky.social for joining our House Blue Dog Coalition meeting to discuss ways to build a more functional and responsive gov't.
The folks working at our ports are local heroes – they keep our economy running full steam ahead.
I've visited more than 13 ports across Southwest Washington, that way I can fight for their needs and priorities in Congress.
Fentanyl is devastating our communities and putting our national security at risk.
We're calling on Congress to empower law enforcement as they work to end this crisis.
I had the chance to speak with Ukrainian members of Parliament about our shared commitment to stopping Putin's unprovoked aggression and securing meaningful peace that protects Ukrainian sovereignty.
Thanks to With Honor for hosting this important bipartisan discussion.
Thanks to Thurston County Commissioners Carolina Mejia and Wayne Fournier for stopping by!
We discussed the progress of the SW WA Regional Ag Business Park – which I was able to help fund – as well as ways to continue supporting local farming, public safety, and infrastructure needs.
I joined my bipartisan colleagues to introduce a bill to extend this vital program – since I refuse to let federal inaction undermine opportunities for our kids.
In rural communities like mine, blows to our timber economy have resulted in a loss of jobs, wealth, and people – and Secure Rural Schools payments have helped address budget shortfalls. ⬇️
I introduced a bipartisan bill to ensure lawmakers get the full picture – so we can effectively assess long-term implications, plan for our future, and avoid passing more debt to our children.
