if my builder had been allowed to spend £350 on installing a proper window unit rather than me spending £350 on getting a portable one, I would have a strictly better AC for the same cost
In practice, the spec is interpreted as "if you ask for AC, you are told to redesign the house so it doesn't need it". It's a catch 22: you're allowed to install active cooling only if you can prove you don't need to install active cooling
It's much much much more efficient and effective if it's built in, and I don't quite understand what the trade-off is here? Why is the portable unit preferable? It still costs money, still takes up space for 50 weeks, etc etc
fakes are also bad obvs but it's somewhat easier to enforce _once you have ANPR working_, since you can arrest anyone whose plates don't match the vehicle they're on
my issue isn't the fakes, it's the ones designed to be unreadable by cameras, and the vast array of suppliers all competing to push the limits of what is legal and difficult to read.
There are 34,000 providers of number plates in the UK, competing to sell a product that legally has to be near-indistinguishable across all suppliers. Why… why is there a market in this at all hansard.parliament.uk/Lords/2026-0...

A fun thing that will happen fairly soon is chunky models being explicitly RL’d to say “no, do it yourself” to users trying to get them to waste tokens on trivial tasks

If we were sunnier, I would be a huge defender of the UK's net zero policy, because solar is quite clearly going to underpin prosperity in the latter half of this century. I'm much less confident about wind, and think our path ahead is unsettlingly expensive
