I loved Douglas Stuart's novel John of John, reviewed it for the NYT, and am delighted to see that it just made the Booker Prize shortlist. Read it! (You can skip the reader comments on my review; they're mostly from people who are mad at Oprah Winfrey, which...fine.) www.nytimes.com/2026/05/04/b...
I'll save a real discussion of Elsinore for when it opens but right now I'll say A) every bit of praise you're hearing for Andrew Scott's performance is justified and B) he has a very witty, smart, surprising script to work with. (Don't get me started on the glibness of calling this "Oscar bait.")
I know Swift doesn't mean anything bad by it, but...yeah. This is not great.
I know ‘patient zero’ has now basically just entered colloquial language and it was already the title of a zombie horror movie etc. but seeing it as the title of a new Taylor Swift single still makes me cringe and will every time I hear it. that phrase has a very specific history and context!
All the people here criticizing Mamdani for this A) apparently have no memory of how it went the last time B) make me happy and relieved that Bluesky is a bubble. To paraphrase Dean Wormer: Self-righteous, smug, and ignorant is no way to go through life, son.
Trump plans to meet with NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion Monday on Monday
I am not a Bourdain cultist and I don't have a lot of patience for macho-but-hurting-inside chef drama. But I just saw the movie Tony and thought it was very strong and well-made. I was esp. impressed by Dominic Sessa; his remarkable debut in The Holdovers was not a fluke. (Bonus: Ptown locations!)
Correction: A company marketing a cartoon character obtained the cooperation of an opportunistic journalist for an infomercial, and it failed.
Tilly Norwood, a controversial AI “actor,” abruptly switched languages during an interview with Piers Morgan, though the company behind the AI creation denied she malfunctioned.
I think what Forbes meant to say is, a company marketing a cartoon character obtained the cooperation of an opportunistic journalist for an informercial, and it failed.
Tilly Norwood, a controversial AI “actor,” abruptly switched languages during an interview with Piers Morgan, though the company behind the AI creation denied she malfunctioned.
I'm watching a show that you all like that started streaming this year and I swear to God the finale is just eight pretty people taking turns saying to each other "Are you okay?"
