I am stunned and deeply disappointed to see Dr. Carla Hayden—our first woman and first Black Librarian of Congress—fired before her term was up. She championed access, equity, and knowledge. President Trump continues to wage his culture war against America’s finest cultural institutions.
President Trump's skinny budget includes devastating cuts to scientific research—slashing funding for NASA, the National Science Foundation, & the National Institutes of Health by billions. These cuts would be catastrophic to biotech and research institutions in Maryland. #ProtectResearch
Yesterday, I questioned FBI Director Kash Patel about the FBI’s budget request and priorities. I was encouraged to hear that Director Patel said he opposes cuts to the FBI’s budget. The White House should rethink these drastic cuts, which would be harmful to the FBI’s mission and its people.
In March, I sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee laying out why Ed Martin was an unqualified and dangerous pick for the U.S. Attorney for DC. I appreciate my Senate colleagues for opposing this unfit nominee.
Vetting potential employees is a critical step in the hiring process. Clearly, Secretary Bessent & VP Musk missed a step when they hired Mr. Elez. It is outrageous that this administration has repeatedly hired an openly racist individual & given them access to sensitive government data and systems.
The acquittal of three former Memphis police officers in the killing of Tyre Nichols is a stark reminder that our fight against police violence is far from over. To honor the life of Tyre, we must commit to meaningful reform and stand against the abuse of power in all its forms.
🚨President Trump is planning on stealing the benefits that retired federal workers across the country have earned over their careers. I stand with @raskin.house.gov & my colleagues in the Maryland delegation for calling for action to protect the pensions & healthcare of our federal workers.
This week, I’m proud to recognize the small businesses that make Maryland’s Fourth District strong. Small businesses like Premier Enterprise Solutions, LLC—led by Jacqueline and Michael Lopez in Upper Marlboro—are the backbone of our local economy.
In honor of #nationalpublicservicerecognitionwee, I renew my commitment to protecting federal workers by. I am fighting to protect their livelihoods. Today, tomorrow, next week, and every week until, ALL, illegally fired federal employees have their jobs restored.
Due process matters: ✅It’s a fundamental principle of the rule of law 🛡️It protects people against arbitrary government decisions ⚖️It ensures fairness in legal matters for both citizens and non-citizens First Mr. Abrego Garcia, now a four-year old? Whose next? This is ILLEGAL.
You don’t have to be a lawyer to know how to read. The President IS CONSTITUTIONALLY OBLIGATED to uphold the Constitution. President Trump, the oath that you swore to on January 20, 2025, explicitly requires you to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.” This is not up for debate.
The USPS is one of the most efficient mail carriers in the world. USPS must continue to expand its reach & offer more reliable, accessible, & timely coverage across the country. I will always support adequate staffing & resources for the USPS - privatization is “off the table.”
Princeton University hosts the Princeton Prize in Race Relations ceremony to recognize high school students demonstrating thought leadership in advancing racial equity within their schools & communities. We must continue to inspire young leaders to use their voices to drive change.
It is beyond appalling that my House Republican colleagues are afraid to stand up to the President and bring themselves to disavow his suggestions he would consider deporting American citizens. It’s dangerous and it’s wrong.
