Last week, DOGE fired thousands of workers at HHS including 300 employees at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), including folks at the Coordination Office. This will disrupt coverage and negatively affect the health and well-being of seniors dually enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid.
Veterans in the federal workforce are not bloated bureaucrats - they are committed to helping other veterans and serving their country. By cutting these jobs without warning or cause, Trump is pushing thousands of veterans into financial and professional uncertainty.
While Trump was golfing all weekend, his tariffs continued to wreak havoc on small businesses, consumers, and retirement accounts across the country. The American people do not deserve to have their financial future threatened for Trump's failing economic agenda.
On Friday, I joined Bloomberg to discuss the great work that IONQ is doing in Prince George's County. President Trump should focus on creating an economy that supports innovation- not launching a trade war while cutting funding for research at universities and in the federal government.
An administrative error does not excuse this affront to due process just because an individual looked a certain way. I was relieved to see NBC4 report that the judge ordered Abrego Garcia be returned to the United States. This should have never happened in the first place. #dueprocessmatters
Yesterday was the worst day for the economy since the COVID-19 pandemic. The candidate who ran on economic prosperity flatlined the US economy, even before his tariffs took effect. I will not sit back as hardworking Americans are permanently affected by Trump's reckless actions.
As Public Sector Task Force Co-Lead, I joined @laborcaucus.bsky.social Chairs in leading a letter signed by all House Democrats to President Trump demanding he reverse his anti-union EO eliminating 1.5M federal workers' collective bargaining rights. We will NOT allow illegal union-busting.
On this day in 1968, the civil rights trailblazer Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. Without him, we would not have become a society for all Americans. To preserve MLK's legacy, the Congressional Black Caucus will continue work together to protect DEI. Rest in power, Dr. King.
In 1968 civil rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered the Mountaintop speech in Memphis, Tennessee. This is a prime example of strategic and effective oration, the antithesis of what we saw yesterday with President Trump’s speech attacking our allies by imposing unnecessary tariffs.
On this day in 1948, Former President Harry S. Truman signed the Marshall Plan into law, which would support the economies of European countries affected by WWII. That is diplomacy. Yesterday, we saw a President upend the world order to line his billionaire buddies’ pockets. We won’t stand for it.
Last month, I joined my colleagues at a rally outside of NOAA to protest the Trump administration's unlawful agency layoffs. This is why I was appalled to see Senator Banks bullying a federal worker. Instead, why doesn't he join us in telling VP Musk to keep his HANDS OFF our federal government?
Trump’s firing of thousands of HHS employees is having a direct impact on one of America’s most vulnerable communities- seniors and the disabled. VP Musk & the House GOP are dismantling critical programs like Meals on Wheels and lying to the public. www.npr.org/sections/sho...
President Trump’s “Liberation Day” is the start of his administration’s global trade war that will ultimately lead to higher prices on goods like automobiles. The administration is sending our economy in a dangerous direction. #Tariffs #TradeWars #GlobalEconomy www.npr.org/2025/04/02/n...
It’s been over 17 hours since @booker.senate.gov started speaking on the Senate floor. He’s speaking up for the everyday Americans who are being hurt by President Trump and VP Musk. We must all continue to use the tools at our disposal to stand up to this administration!
I’ve taken the Senate floor and will speak for as long as I’m physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisis. Watch here:
Today is #CesarChavezDay. We honor the life and legacy of the civil rights and labor movement activist, Cesar Chavez. As a Vice Chair of the @labor_caucus, it is an immense honor to uphold Cesar’s legacy by continuing the good fight to protect the rights of laborers across the country. 📷: CA.gov
Republicans and President Trump promised that they would lower the cost of living. Yet they have done waged a tariff war that will ultimately harm consumers. President Trump has said he "couldn't care less" if you’re forced to pay more for the next car that you buy. www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...
