NEWS: Rep. Swalwell, Ranking Members Jamie Raskin and Hank Johnson co-lead a bicameral bill to move the U.S. Marshals Service under the Judicial Branch, ensuring it can protect federal judges and enforce federal court orders without risk of political weaponization by Trump or the executive branch.
The bill that House Republicans just passed in the dead of night cuts Medicaid and SNAP, taking health care away from nearly 14 million Americans and food assistance away from hungry kids. We will keep working to defeat this cruel and deeply unpopular agenda.
I strongly condemn the cold blooded murders of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim who were gunned down last night outside the Capital Jewish Museum. There is no justification for this despicable act. Violence is not the answer. Peace and love is.
BREAKING: Two staff members of the Israeli embassy who were shot and killed Wednesday evening in Washington have been identified as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim by the Israel's foreign minister.
This country is about “we, the people” not about “Donald Trump, the king.” I offered two amendments at the Rules Committee meeting tonight. The first would restore federal courts’ ability to hold government officials in contempt any time they violate court orders.
After more than 20 hours of fighting against this extreme legislation during a Rules committee meeting, we are now moving to adjourn the House to stop Republicans from jamming through this disastrous bill in the dead of night.
In an effort to restore independence to the nation’s highest court, I am proud to reintroduce the Supreme Court Tenure Establishment and Retirement Modernization (TERM) Act, which would establish term limits for Supreme Court justices and a regularized appointments process.
House Republicans started the Rules committee meeting at 1AM this morning. Why are they meeting in the dead of night? Because they know just as well as we do that this legislation is deeply unpopular with the American people.
I just joined my CPC, CBC & @demwomencaucus.bsky.social colleagues to stand in firm support of @replamonica.bsky.social , who is being prosecuted for doing her job as a Member of Congress and touring an ICE detention facility. We will fight this prosecution, and we will win.
With great power comes great responsibility. A more ethical SCOTUS creates a more just America. Congress must act to preserve the impartiality and integrity of the judiciary by passing the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal and Transparency Act now.
