Pramila Jayapal

Pramila Jayapal is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative from Washington's 7th congressional district since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, she represents most of Seattle, as well as some suburban areas of King County. Jayapal represented the 37th legislative district in the Washington State Senate from 2015 to 2017. She is the first Indian American woman to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. The district's first female member of Congress, she is also the first Asian American to represent Washington at the federal level.

Today marks 31 consecutive days that the House of Representatives has been out of session, as Speaker Johnson continues to cancel votes week after week. That means a month-long vacation for House Republicans. It’s time to get back to work for the American people.
Federal workers are pissed off at this administration. They have been demeaned, villainized, and fired — and now Trump is threatening to not pay them at all as this Republican Shutdown continues. But they still want Democrats to keep fighting for affordable health care and democracy.
A 50 year old couple making $95,000 a year could see their premiums go up by $17,000 if the ACA subsidies aren’t extended. It’s the 19th day of the Republican Shutdown, and Republicans are still on vacation instead of protecting health care.
It’s day 17 of the Republican Shutdown, and approximately 750,000 federal workers have been furloughed and are missing paychecks. Workers and their families deserve better. Republicans must end this shutdown now.
