Growing up the daughter of a newspaperman, I know the importance of public media and a free press. Public broadcasting provides nearly 99% of Americans with lifesaving emergency updates and important local journalism. This attempt to defund public broadcasting is wrong.
Public broadcasting reaches nearly every American with local news, kids shows, and emergency alerts. Now, Republicans in Congress are trying to claw back funding for these outlets that already passed with bipartisan support. I spoke out in support of public media on the floor:
It should be as easy to cancel a subscription as it was to sign up. But a court blocked the rule to do just that. I’ll keep fighting to shield consumers from costly traps and push the FTC to rework this rule to protect consumers.
Apprenticeships provide valuable on-the-job training to work in high-demand fields. I introduced bipartisan legislation to provide tuition assistance for apprenticeships so more Americans can access these valuable programs.
The mass kidnapping of Ukrainian children by Russia is an atrocity. We can't accept a world where children are used as pawns in negotiations. Sen. Grassley and I introduced legislation to support Ukraine’s tireless efforts to bring them home and hold the perpetrators accountable.
Dianne Feinstein was a monumental figure in Congress and a trailblazer for women. Last week, Sen. Padilla brought us together - along with Dianne’s granddaughter - to dedicate a Willow Oak to remember her service. (Fun fact - Diane's home in D.C. was nicknamed “Willow Oaks.”)
This is an outrageous budget passed by Congressional Republicans. The American people know it, and the more they find out about it the more shocked they will become. We won’t stop fighting back.
I’m praying for the victims of the devastating flooding in Texas, their families, and for all those impacted. Deeply thankful for the first responders and rescue crews working tirelessly to save lives and bring everyone to safety.
Even with all the difficulties in the world, there are still moments of joy. Rachel, who works in my Duluth office, and her husband Brent welcomed their baby. Adelynn (Adele) Mae arrived weighing 6 lbs 13 oz and measuring 20.5 inches long. Mom and baby are both doing well.
No one should have to choose between putting food on the table and paying for their medications. We must make prescriptions more affordable by taking on Big Pharma’s price gouging and accelerating Medicare's price negotiations.
This will be the first Fourth of July where the Bald Eagle is officially our national bird. Here is a great photo from the National Eagle Center in Wabasha after our bipartisan legislation passed:
Happy Fourth of July! Today, as we celebrate our nation’s freedoms with parades and fireworks, let’s honor our brave men and women in uniform who defend our liberties everyday. Their sacrifice makes moments like these possible. 🇺🇸
Congressional Republicans passed a bill that raises our debt by $4 trillion, kicks millions off health care, and raises grocery prices for 40 million people — all to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. Americans overwhelmingly oppose this bill and yes they will remember this day.
Every American deserves access to quality healthcare. I won’t stop fighting until families no longer have to decide between paying for medical care or paying their utility bill, or between paying for prescription drugs or groceries.
I want to welcome the new Chief of the Capitol Police Michael G. Sullivan. At a time when members of Congress are facing increasing threats, he will play a crucial role in protecting democracy and everyone that works in and visits the Capitol.
