56 years ago today, Shirley Chisholm broke barriers when she was sworn in as our nation’s first Black Congresswoman. Now 29 strong, us Black Congresswomen will carry on her legacy and break out our folding chairs to ensure we have a seat at the table the next four years.
Under her leadership, @ppfa.bsky.social became the premiere resource for those seeking affordable, high quality reproductive care & sex education while weathering attacks from anti-abortion extremists & laying the groundwork to continue successfully carrying out its mission in the post-Dobbs era.
As we remember the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today, his words ring especially true: “the time is always right to do what is right.” With our community still reeling from the fires, let us honor his legacy through service and action to ensure an equitable recovery.
It’s laughable that Trump is trying to become TikTok’s savior when he proposed the initial ban. If he wants to be the hero, he should allow TikTok to remain as is and develop a holistic approach to address the data privacy and disinformation risks that are not unique to TikTok.
17M new jobs. $189B in student debt relief. Historic investments in climate & infrastructure. A country brought back from the depths of COVID, dignity restored to the White House, and so much more. Thank you, President Biden & VP Harris. Our nation will forever be grateful for your service.
Yesterday, I toured the devastating scenes of the Palisades Fire. It was heart-wrenching to see entire communities—homes, small businesses, schools—gone. But together, LA will rebuild. I’ll fight to secure all of the federal resources we need to make our communities whole again.
For years, our justice system handed down disproportionate sentences for Black & Brown people.   Today, President Biden offered nearly 2,500 souls a measure of justice and a fresh start. Thank you for righting historical wrongs within our justice system.
NEW: Biden just commuted the sentences of nearly 2,500 people convicted of non-violent drug offenses "who are serving disproportionately long sentences compared to the sentences they would receive today." Biden has now issued more pardons and commutations than any president in U.S. history.
I must shout out my fearless friend @mcclellan.house.gov, who made this possible by leading Virginia to become the 38th and final state necessary to ratify the ERA. Also, @pressley.house.gov & @coribush.bsky.social, who led the federal effort to ensure these protections reach people in every state.
Today, President Biden cemented his legacy of championing fairness, justice, and equity by declaring the Equal Rights Amendment as the law of the land. The president and people have spoken— now, the Archivist must publish the ERA to ensure equal pay, protections, and opportunity for all.
From advancing criminal justice reform to fighting for LA's creative economy, I am eager to get to work as a new member of @democrats-judiciary.house.gov!   I'm also proud to return to @houseforeign.bsky.social, where I'll be leading Democrats on the South & Central Asia Subcommittee.
