This shutdown happened because Johnson, Thune & Trump refused to come to the table. One party controls the House, Senate & White House. They have the power to keep government open. If they refuse to negotiate on health care, that’s on them. Plain and simple.

Average ACA premiums are about to skyrocket from $888 to $1,904 a month if Republicans get their way. A 60-year-old couple making $85,000 would be forced to pay $22,600 MORE a year.  Millions will be priced out of care. Friends, this is WORTH THE FIGHT.

There’s so much happening in the news, but I can’t ignore President Trump’s recent remarks to our military leaders. His speech was filled with falsehoods and carried a deeply troubling message about the role of our armed forces in our democracy. 👇🧵

And as for Pete Hegseth—the television pundit pretending to be Patton—he’s the opposite of what our men and women in uniform need. They need their lives in the hands of serious leadership, not cable talk bravado dressed up as wisdom.
Our armed forces put their lives on the line for our democracy. They deserve honesty, integrity, and respect. Nothing less. 🇺🇸

They deserve better than a Commander in Chief who would use their courage as a prop for his own agenda and inflated ego.
Our troops deserve leaders who honor their sacrifice by telling the truth, respecting the Constitution, and keeping politics out of the chain of command.
That is the opposite of what our founders intended—and the opposite of what generations of service members have sworn to protect. Those generations fought to protect bedrock principles of our republic that we must never undermine.
But in his speech, Trump crossed a dangerous line. He suggested the military should be a political weapon and that American cities could be treated as a proving ground for force.
I’m honored to represent Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. I have nothing but gratitude and respect for our Marines, sailors, soldiers, and airmen. They are the finest fighting force in the world, serving with courage, integrity, and devotion to the Constitution.

Russ Vought, Trump’s budget director, is trying to use the shutdown to illegally fire federal workers and gut agencies Congress created. It will not stand. We are fighting back in court and the law is on the side of the workers. Do not lose hope.

Our economy is increasingly being propped up by the wealthy. The top 10 percent now account for nearly half of all spending while working families struggle with rising costs. That is not sustainable, and Trump’s reckless policies are making it worse. www.morningbrew.com/stories/weal...
