Congratulations to AFGE members and all federal employees on a major victory in the fight against the illegal mass firings instituted by President Trump and Russ Vought!
I’m in Washington with my fellow Democrats working to re-open government and ensure Americans can afford their health care. Since Republicans shut down government 15 days ago, House GOP has been AWOL, refusing to negotiate with Democrats to prevent skyrocketing costs for millions.
When it comes to making your healthcare affordable with ACA tax credits, there’s not a penny to be found. But Trump had no problem giving permanent tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy and giant corporations, and now a $40 billion handout to his friend in Argentina. Doesn't sound like America First!
President Trump is using his shutdown as cover to implement Project 2025. Federal law requires support for students with disabilities, but Russ Vought just fired all the Department of Education staff overseeing those funds. Trump is determined to let waste, fraud, and abuse run rampant.

There's something really fishy going on in Washington. It's time for Congress to get back to work.
It’s clear that Republicans are uninterested in showing up to Washington to end the multi-week government shutdown they created. I’m in DC along with many of my Democratic colleagues as we fight to save the Affordable Care Act and re-open the government.

Today, I heard from small business owners who are facing premiums and other negative impacts from the Republican’s Big Ugly Law. They urged Republicans to work with Democrats to urgently address this health care crisis and reopen the federal government.
Our federal employees are public servants who provide services that Americans rely on. They deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and to have the government open so they can get back to work for the American people.
Trump and Musk already illegally tried to fire hundreds of thousands of public servants earlier this year. Now Trump and Russ Vought are using the Republican government shutdown as an excuse try it again.
Families, neighbors, and visitors are benefiting from the strong partnerships and public safety efforts led by Ramsey County Attorney John Choi and the Saint Paul Police Department.
Today, I am thinking of the families who are embracing their formerly captive relatives, those receiving the remains of their deceased relatives, and those who are mourning the loss of their friends, family, and ancestral homes.
In war, the wounds sustained by the innocent take the longest to heal. This agreement marks a new day in this conflict, but our work is far from over. The hope of lasting peace can only be realized through cooperation, courage, and commitment to peace.
It is my hope that as we seize this moment of peace, that the rebuilding effort focus on the needs of the people of Gaza and respects the sovereignty of the people of the West Bank. The Palestinian people must have a clear path to achieve freedom and statehood.
