Today should have been Arman Momand’s first day back at school.
Instead, he’s detained at the Farmville Detention Center by ICE and faces deportation back to the Taliban-led country his family had to flee after his father assisted the U.S. military in Afghanistan.

Rural communities struggle to access quality rehabilitation services and long-term care.
Today, I visited the Waverly Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center to discuss how the Big Ugly Law’s Medicaid cuts could make it much harder to attract staff and provide care in rural Virginia.
Created as part of the New Deal in response to the Great Depression, Social Security has provided a safety net for seniors, people with disabilities and families for 90 years.
On this #SaveSocialSecurityDayOfAction, I joined AARP Virginia to talk about why Social Security must be preserved.
Social Security turns 90 today. Yet the Trump Administration’s SSA reorganization, workforce cuts and more are making it harder for recipients to access the benefits that they have earned.

August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month! Did you know that under the federal and Virginia Pregnant Worker Fairness Act, employers must give breastfeeding workers reasonable accommodations to pump and store breast milk?
