Due to a quirk in federal law, @USRCDC is not eligible for federal grant funding.
@vanhollen.senate.gov and I introduced a bill to remedy this so Union Station can get the funding it needs for upgrades and renovations.

I announced the application process through my office for FY 26 Community Project Funding requests.
All projects that were included for FY 25 are eligible, but they must be resubmitted for consideration by 5:00 pm on Monday, 4/21.

DC's local budget is still handcuffed by the recent CR. If the House does not pass the Senate fix bill and DC is left to spend at its FY24 levels, it would cut a projected $1b.
Deborah Barfield Berry covered the problem from a DC resident's POV for USA Today.

Congress has passed many of my bills for orderly disposal of federal property in DC.
None of my bills involve putting 100+ federal buildings for sale at the same time, as I highlighted in today's DOGE hearing.
DC has to transmit its legislation to Congress for a review period, but precedent dictates that this must be done physically, not electronically.
I introduced a bill to explicitly allow the DC Council to transmit its legislation electronically.
Tofig Yagublu is an Azerbaijani activist who, according to @hrw and @amnesty, is being held political prisoner for his political activities and to deter other government critics.
Tofiq is also the father of one of my constituents. I urge @SecRubio to secure his release.
DC residents contact me regularly about the negative impact train noise and vibrations have on their health, quality of life, and even the structural integrity of their homes.
I introduced a bill to address the problem.
Rep. Chris Smith introduced an anti-home rule bill to rename part of 18th St. NW in Dupont Circle.
DC is not a blank slate for Congress to fill in as it pleases, over the will of 700K people who live here permanently.
Rep. Chris Smith's disapproval resolution on DC's Insurance Regulation Amendment Act is a fumbled attempted attack on DC home rule, coming too late to have any effect.
The congressional review period on the DC law, as governed by the Home Rule Act, has already expired.
Congratulations to DC’s own Sukey Hayden and Joe Book for winning 2nd place in CSPAN’s StudentCam documentary competition.

The President has said House Republicans should bring the D.C. budget fix bill to the floor.
We should get this passed immediately.

The elite corps of African American pilots, crew and others fought in WWII and paved the way for desegregation of the US military.

President Trump's EO on DC is thoroughly anti-home rule and insulting to 700K DC residents who live in close proximity to a federal government that continues to deny them the same rights given to other Americans.

I'll speak at a press conference at 2:00 pm with my National Capital Region colleagues to support the introduction of @repsuhas.bsky.social’s bill to require federal agencies seeking to relocate to conduct a cost-benefit analysis and share it with Congress first.
As expected, the CBO found that the Senate-passed bill to fix DC's treatment in the CR would cost the federal gov't $0, since DC's budget consists of locally-raised funds.
I'm calling on Speaker Johnson to bring the bill for a House vote.

The Center for Effective Lawmaking, a partnership between UVA and Vanderbilt, has rated @eleanornorton.bsky.social as “exceeding expectations” for every term she’s served in Congress, whether she was in the majority or minority.
She’s done this despite lacking the ability to vote.
The Center for Effective Lawmaking ranked me the 10th most effective House Democrat in the 118th Congress, with the longest streak of "exceeding expectations" over consecutive terms in the entire House.
Even in a perilous time, DC should be encouraged by the ranking.
