From giving DC the same access to service academies as states to giving DC mayor the same authority over the DCNG that the govs of states & territories have, these common-sense amendments will bring us closer to equality with the states and expand DC's power to decide how to use its own resources.

I filed several common-sense, pro-DC amendments to the FY 27 NDAA at the Rules Committee.
People Magazine has named my legislative assistant Raya Kenney as one of its “Heroes Among Us.”
As a 5th grader Raya contacted my office with the idea for a bill to honor Women who Worked on the Home Front in WWII. I introduced the bill, which was signed into law in 2023.
Security is not only about reducing lives lost. It's also about safeguarding the institutions, freedoms and values that anchor our country.
I introduced my bill to create a commission to recommend ways to maintain our tradition of openness while responding to security threats.
DC's local courts have faced a perpetual judicial vacancy crisis because nominees are stuck waiting for Senate confirmation while the Senate prioritizes confirming federal judges.
Today, Senator Van Hollen and I introduced a bill to streamline the process and improve access to justice.
A third video depicts three National Guard members aggressively detaining a woman who was seated on a bench outside a private residence.

A second video shows a group of National Guard personnel gathered around a ballot drop box, with one individual stating that they had not received instructions to avoid the vicinity of drop boxes.

One video shows a room of National Guard members with the DC flag spread on the ground with what appear to be Sharpie markers on top, suggesting the soldiers intended to sign the flag.
Soldiers have historically signed + kept captured flags from enemy territories as war trophies.

Federal officials deployed thousands of National Guard personnel into DC without the consent of the District's elected government.
Recent reports and videos raise serious questions about the Guard's conduct in DC, and I intend to get answers.
Thank you to UDC for recognizing my longstanding support of the university today.
It has been a privilege to champion the only public university in our nation's capital as it educates and empowers the next generation of leaders, public servants, and changemakers.
Sexual harassment remains a pervasive problem in workplaces across the country.
As the first woman to chair the EEOC, I introduced my bill to create a national commission to combat workplace sexual harassment.
Workers shouldn't bear the burden of exposing these failures alone.
I'll question GAO Director Collins this morning about progress implementing recommendations from a helicopter noise study I got included in the 2024 FAA reauthorization.
Helicopter noise can be damaging to health, quality of life, and even the structural integrity of homes.
Lacking equal treatment ourselves, DC is a natural ally in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality, inclusion, and protections.
And we show it! Happy Pride Month, DC.
Rock Creek Park is one of our nation's great public treasures.
I introduced my bill to rename it as "Rock Creek National Park" to appropriately recognize its national significance.
Closing two federal childcare centers with less than 3 months' notice is a direct, cruel attack on the National Capital Region workforce.
I joined my National Capital Region colleagues to insist that USDA Sec. Rollins find a new provider before the scheduled closure in July.
I'm pleased to have secured many victories for DC and the nation, including 4 of my bills, in the Committee-passed surface transportation reauthorization bill — especially defeating Rep. Perry's amendment to eliminate critical grant funding for WMATA.
Every Memorial Day our nation honors the servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice for American democracy, yet DC residents have fought & died in every American war without enjoying those very rights at home.
I introduced a resolution ahead of the holiday honoring their sacrifices.
Public health crises put pregnant & postpartum women at risk—especially women of color, who face disproportionate maternal mortality rates.
I’m proud to cosponsor Sen. Warren + Rep. Underwood's bill to protect mothers & infants during public health crises.

As RM of the Sub. on Highways & Transit, I’m pleased to support this bill.
While it’s not the bill Dems would’ve written on our own, and while, as part of the big four agreement, I might need to vote against amendments I otherwise support, I applaud the chairs and RMs for their bipartisanship.
