House Republicans have jammed through their reckless and disastrous budget bill.
It will add trillions to the deficit, slash health care for countless Coloradans, and jeopardize rural hospitals across our state.
My full statement below.
Last night, House Republicans held the longest continuous roll-call vote in the history of the U.S. Congress.
All so that they can give tax breaks to billionaires and slash food assistance for millions of Americans.
Shameful!
From the devastating cuts to rural hospitals, to the terrible backroom deals for special interest tax breaks — the Republican budget bill represents everything that is wrong with Washington D.C.

Joe Neguse now wants to know why Mike Johnson continues to leave votes open indefinitely for hours every time they don’t have enough votes.

NEGUSE: Whalers
SMITH: What's that?
NEGUSE: A new tax break for whalers. Fisherman
SMITH: That's included
NEGUSE: Why was that added?
SMITH: You'd have to talk to the senators
NEGUSE: I think we all know, right

Democratic Rep. Joe Neguse reminded GOP Rep. Jodey Arrington on Tuesday how he was singing "a different tune" about the national debt mere weeks ago.

ARRINGTON: If you're looking to make the argument this bill isn't perfect when it comes to fiscal discipline, you win
NEGUSE: Well, I appreciate it
This is what a broken Congress looks like.
Republicans prioritizing special tax breaks for “whaling boat captains” to secure the passage of their trillion-dollar, health care-slashing tax bill.
Shameful.
Rural hospitals across the country will be forced to close if the Republican budget bill becomes law. Full stop.
It is 12:45 am here in Washington D.C. and our Rules Committee hearing on House Republicans’ terrible budget bill has now gone for 12 hours straight.
We must defeat this reckless bill!
House Republicans are pushing through their reckless tax bill that adds trillions of dollars to the deficit while cutting healthcare for millions of Americans.
But the one program they won’t cut?
$40 million for President Trump’s "Garden of Heroes."
Joining @allinwithchris.bsky.social on MSNBC in a few minutes to shed light on House Republicans’ reckless tax bill.
Tune in! 📺
The hypocrisy of House Republicans was on full display this afternoon in the Rules Committee — their reckless bill must be rejected!
Just arrived back in Washington D.C. and grateful to take some calls from constituents & visit with them before I head off to the Rules Committee hearing to fight against Republicans' reckless budget bill!
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) says it best:
“[T]his bill will cost hundreds of thousands of good-paying construction jobs, billions of work hours, and hundreds of billions in lost wages and economic benefits to America’s middle class.”
The bill must be defeated!
A devastating and profound loss for our Boulder community. My wife Andrea and I are praying for Karen Diamond’s family and friends, and keeping all of her loved ones in our thoughts during this very difficult time.
May her memory be a blessing.

BREAKING — Senator Lee has just withdrawn his public lands sell-off provision!
Thanks to your efforts, the American people — and our public lands — have won!
🏔️🏔️🏔️
🚨 Our fight to stop the sale of YOUR public lands continues, as Senator Mike Lee’s outrageous proposal to sell-off public lands has been included in the final Senate bill text.
Every American who cares about our public lands, now is the time to make your voices heard!
Excited to be back home in Colorado, visiting with folks in Grand & Routt counties.
Our district is larger than 8 states & has more than 50 towns, which is why I’m proud to have hosted more town-halls in the last 6 months than CO’s entire House delegation combined — and we’re just getting started!
🚨The Trump administration’s attempt to massively expand crude oil transportation along the Colorado River under "emergency procedures” is outrageous.
We are working to stop it!
