163 years ago, on New Year’s Day, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation — an essential first step towards ending slavery. We must remember our history, as well as continue to work to improve these United States🇺🇸
@housedemocrats.bsky.social want to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. We just need 4 Republicans to be brave enough to join us. This extension would allow Illinois to open up a special enrollment period, so even more Americans can get the healthcare they need.
Congratulations to Arnav from Fremd High School for winning this year's Congressional App Challenge! Arnav developed Oculare AI to help the millions of people who lack access to ophthalmologists and diagnostic equipment. And thank you to our student judges from Harper College!
Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to Illinois has cost taxpayers $12.8 MILLION, according to an independent study from @ips-dc.org. Our federal government should be funding education and health care for Americans, not abusing our military for political stunts.
Happy Kwanzaa!❤️💚 As many Chicagoans celebrate the seven principles this week, let us reflect on the strength of family, community, and shared values that guide us forward.
Nearly HALF of all Americans are struggling to find food, health care, and housing that they can afford, according to a recent poll in @politico.com. Trump’s economy of #ScroogePolitics is bleeding Americans dry – right before Christmas!
As Vice Chair of the @equality.house.gov, I promise to continue fighting for all our LGBTQ+ service members and veterans. Every American who is willing and able to serve our country should be allowed to.
Today, we celebrate 15 years since the repeal of the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. This harmful mandate banned LGBTQ+ Americans from the service — just like Trump's current ban on transgender servicemembers.
Due to the Trump administration’s horrific ICE raids in Chicago, annual revenue in Little Village (one of our historically Latino neighborhoods), has dropped by 50%. 911 calls from Little Village residents have dropped by 21%. And HALF of our city’s neighborhoods have seen school attendance drop.
My bill, the PROTECT Immigration Act, will end the program that lets ICE and CBP coopt our local police for detention and detainments. My bill will restore trust in local law enforcement AND protect our law-abiding neighbors.

While ICE is terrorizing communities in NC, Trump continues to bribe local police into performing ICE duties through the 287(g) program. I introduced the PROTECT Immigration Act with @quigley.house.gov, @mcbride.house.gov, and @jayapal.house.gov to stop this program that endangers communities.
Commissioner Degnen and I enjoyed attending the 47th Ward’s Holiday Senior Luncheon. @aldermanmattmartin.bsky.social knows how to spread some holiday cheer!🎀✨
Every day in Washington, I see Americans protesting for the #EpsteinFiles to be released. The law we passed in November gave Trump 30 days to release the files to the public. Now, he has 24 hours left.
