Bernard Sanders

Bernard "Bernie" Sanders is an American politician and activist serving as the senior United States senator from Vermont, a seat he has held since 2007. He is the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history, but maintains a close relationship with the Democratic Party, having caucused with House and Senate Democrats for most of his congressional career and sought the party's presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020. Sanders has been viewed as one of the main leaders of the modern American progressive movement.

Let’s be clear. Trump's arrest of Judge Dugan in Milwaukee has nothing to do with immigration. This latest attack is about one thing: unchecked power. It is time for my colleagues in the Republican Party to stand up to his growing authoritarianism.
Our health care system is broken. We need to end the disgrace of being the only major country not to guarantee health care for all as a human right. We must pass Medicare for All — legislation that I will be introducing next week.
Today in America, the rich are getting richer & working families are struggling. What is Mr. Trump doing about this? He's getting ready to give tax cuts to billionaires while making it harder for Americans to access the Medicare, Social Security & veterans benefits they earned.
Trump’s efforts to deport migrant farm workers will only disrupt families, raise food prices and put more pressure on struggling family farms. It is exactly the wrong approach. The time is long overdue for real immigration reform and a path to citizenship for migrant workers.

In defiance of the Supreme Court & without any evidence, the White House claims that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a “terrorist,” who was “sent to the right place.” This is a blatant LIE. He is innocent. He cannot be allowed to rot in an El Salvadorian jail. He must be brought home.
Mohsen Mahdawi of White River Junction, Vermont was illegally detained by ICE during what was supposed to be the final step in his citizenship process. Mr. Mahdawi, a legal resident of the US, must be afforded due process under the law and immediately released from detention.

In America last year, nearly 40 million workers made less than $17 an hour. Unacceptable. Nobody in America can make it on $7.25 an hour, $9 an hour or $12 an hour. We need an economy in which all of our workers earn a living wage.
