The President of the United States is supposed to serve ALL Americans, but it is clear that Trump is either unwilling or unable to do so. This is money that has been appropriated by the United States Congress. The Executive Branch has no authority to intervene.
Yom Kippur calls on us to reflect, repent, and recommit to justice. Wishing a meaningful and easy fast to all who observe. Let us all strive to build a more compassionate, equitable world. G’mar Chatima Tovah.
I will vote for a bipartisan bill to open the government that protects families from rising health care costs, but I will not rubber stamp a Republican proposal that continues tax breaks to their wealthy donors while families pay more to visit the doctor.
Republicans have made their priorities clear: they have already ripped health care away from 17 million Americans and doomed millions more to massive increases in health insurance prices so they can give tax breaks to their wealthy donors.
The federal government has entered a shutdown. Republicans control the entire federal government — the Presidency, the Senate, & the House. This is an utter failure of Republican leadership — it’ll substantially impact our communities & our economy & will drive up health care costs for millions.
There are 11 hours left until the Republican-led government shutdown. If Republicans let premium health tax credits expire, millions will face higher costs — including 26,000 people in Illinois' 9th District. We must put people over politics. The time to act is NOW.
What's going on in Chicago right now is dangerous. I joined over 65 of my colleagues in demanding answers from the Secretary of Homeland Security on how the department is using racial bias for stop and arrest decisions.
Under the Fourth Amendment, federal agents generally may not stop someone unless agents have good reason to suspect they're breaking laws, but the rogue Supreme Court has ruled that innocent people can be treated as criminals just because of the color of their skin.
ICE agents aren't being directed to protect Chicago, they're being told to use their badge to profile people of color. The Border Patrol's "Operation At large" is racial profiling disguised as law enforcement.
ICE admits it’s doing racial profiling in downtown Chicago: “Then obviously the particular characteristics of an individual, how they look, how do they look compare to, say, you?” he said to the reporter, a tall, middle-aged man of Anglo descent.” chicago.suntimes.com/immigration/...
Mifepristone is safe, effective, and trusted by millions.   The GOP's assault on reproductive rights is putting lives at risk. Health care decisions should be made by patients and their doctors, not politicians.   We must continue to fight against any efforts limiting access to abortion care!
HHS Secretary RFK Jr. opened an investigation into the safety of the abortion pill mifepristone, as the anti-abortion movement continues to push the administration to restrict access through lawsuits and policy.
I'm joining Members of the Illinois Congressional delegation in demanding answers from ICE about Broadview’s deportation practices and recent use of force. Transparency and accountability are non-negotiable. We are, and always have been, a nation of immigrants.
Illinois Democrats say they are trying to discuss conditions at the ICE Broadview detention facility, which they say is “desperately needed as legal service providers and our constituents have raised concerns about the poor conditions at Broadview.”
Trump and Republicans have used their control of the government to increase costs on everything from groceries to health care.   I will vote for a bipartisan budget that extends health insurance tax credits and protects Americans from price spikes.
The FTC’s settlement with Amazon over Click-to-Cancel is far from justice. Big Tech continues to exploit consumers in the name of extreme profits while the FTC sits idly by. We need bold action and real accountability to protect working people from corporate abuse.
