Sen. Padilla and I will be supporting Governor Newsom’s request for federal aid to recover and rebuild from the Eaton and Palisades fires. To deny it – or place conditions on it – would be to abandon people in their time of most need. People need help. We must act urgently.
Donald Trump just fired a well-respected General who was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. And his Administration announced they’re replacing other officers, too. The purge of people of stature and independence goes on.
Todd Blanche, Trump’s criminal defense lawyer, promised he would follow the advice of career ethics officials at the Department of Justice. Then they fired the career ethics officials. Piece by piece they are destroying the Justice Dept. And any hope of justice along with it.
Elon and other unvetted Trump enablers shouldn't have access to the entire nation's personal and financial data. Can my Republican colleagues acknowledge that? We're forcing a vote to block that access. Let's see where they land.
Thanks to Donald Trump and Elon Musk, firefighters who just finished weeks of around-the-clock shifts fighting dangerous fires were given a note from their Commander in Chief: "Please quit." That’s a hell of a way to say thank you.
I’m forcing the Senate to vote on an amendment to reverse Trump’s layoffs of thousands of critical wildland firefighters. My colleagues claim to support our first responders. Time for them to prove it.
Donald Trump firing ~7000 IRS workers will mean three things: 1) More tax loopholes for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations 2) More debt, since IRS agents collect a lot more than they cost 3) Fewer ways to go after big tax cheats A great day to be a billionaire in America.
This morning, my colleagues and I stood in front of FBI headquarters to make it clear to everyone who wants an FBI focused on violent crime and not on political retribution: Kash Patel would be a disaster as FBI Director.
Kash Patel can't do the job of FBI Director. He's patently unqualified. Those who vote for his confirmation will be accountable for the destruction he does to the nation's top law enforcement agency and to the rule of law.
Governing is about choices. And we have a big choice ahead of us. We can choose to invest in our families. Our workers. Our future. Or we can choose to give another few trillion to those who need it least.
Eve and I are out celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary! And I’m wearing the same shirt I wore on our first date — it’s a bit worn around the edges but then so am I. But three decades later, Adam and Eve are still going strong!
We must ensure Ukraine receives the support and assistance it needs to defend itself against Russia’s unprovoked war, not leave this country to fend for itself. What ally will trust the United States now that our president has so badly betrayed a fellow democracy?
In one week, President Trump’s glaring weakness has done more damage to 80 years of bipartisan U.S. global leadership than all our adversaries could do, combined.
In going so far as to parrot Putin’s false talking points and to blame Ukraine for being invaded and brutalized by Russia, Trump has undermined Ukraine’s position in potential negotiations with Russia and compromised our own national security interests.
