In this week's intel brief, we go deep on three topics:
1️⃣ An update on the war in Iran and its impact on costs at home
2️⃣ This weekend's tornadoes in southwest Michigan
3️⃣ The recent departure of Kristi Noem, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security

You’ve got to call out hate when we see it. We cannot normalize it. Thanks, Josh Landon from Fox 2 Detroit, for the important conversation.
It's been incredible to watch neighbors, organizations and regular citizens open up their homes to help care for people in West Bloomfield Township.
Our first responders, law enforcement, and the private security on the ground all put themselves at risk to save lives at Temple Israel. If not for them, it would have been so much worse and we thank them for that.

Everyone has a responsibility to call out antisemitism anywhere we see it.

The greater Jewish community is still reeling from the attack on Temple Israel yesterday. Were it not for their private security and local law enforcement, this would have been an even greater tragedy.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin on Friday condemned as a clear act of antisemitic violence an incident in which a gunman attacked a synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, saying it reflects a broader rise in hate targeting Jewish communities.

If I'm going to consider additional funding, they’re going to need to open up the hood and tell me why the ample amount of money the Pentagon has isn’t enough.

Congress gave the Pentagon over a trillion dollars in the last budget and a 150 billion topper from the Big Beautiful Bill.
We have genuine problems in this country with ICE. We've all seen the videos with our own eyes. And Republicans should stop holding funding for FEMA, Coast Guard, and TSA hostage while we debate those ICE reforms.

President Trump is right on this -- the Asian Carp *is* a rather violent and destructive fish. We need to complete the Brandon Road project and protect Michigan's Great Lakes.
It shouldn't be left up to our companies or to any one official to make important decisions about AI use in the military.

PS: Just in case you think no one can get along in DC, when I found the Michiganders in the conference, they were having breakfast with a bunch of Buckeyes!
We also discussed ways to address the retirement health care gap for fire fighters — especially during the years after they retire but before they become eligible for Medicare.
Yesterday, I joined fire fighters with the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union (MPFFU) at the International Association of Fire Fighters reception. They shared stats about the high rates of cancer among fire fighters and the need to get PFAS out of fire fighting foam and gear.
The war in Iran will reach Michigan's farmers. Fuel and fertilizer is getting more expensive, just as planting season begins.
Michigan is home to the most specialty crops in America with regular access to water. They’re still reeling from President Trump’s tariffs, and now we need to know what these growers should expect from his farmer bailout.
This, from a U.S. Representative, is racist and deeply anti-American. Everyone — Democrats, Republicans, and Independents — should condemn it.
