One of the last surviving Marines from the Battle of Iwo Jima, Mr. Scott used his artistic talent during the war to paint portraits of his fellow service members — gifts their families still treasure today. (2/3)
It was a privilege to meet Corporal James Allen Scott at the Yountville Veterans Home and present him with a certificate celebrating his 103rd birthday. He may be 103, but he looks and talks like he's in his 60s! (1/3)
As Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, I was proud to help lead the effort to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act into law, which stopped abusive boyfriends from accessing firearms and has already stopped thousands of illegal gun purchases, saving lives nationwide.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to recommit ourselves to protecting survivors and ending the cycle of violence. More than two-thirds of intimate partner homicides are committed with a firearm — a tragic reminder of what’s at stake.
Yet Congressional Republicans are pushing forward with no plan except to tank the economy and leave working Americans behind.
Millions of Americans are about to see their healthcare premiums double, and over 340,000 people, including 20,000 here in California, could lose their jobs if ACA healthcare tax credits expire. That’s hundreds of thousands of families losing income, and millions more unable to afford coverage.
It was an honor to join Meals on Wheels Yolo County and Meals on Wheels Yuba/Sutter to celebrate their new partnership — and to thank Sutter Health for their investment supporting seniors across our region. Together, they’re making sure no senior is left hungry or forgotten.
While Americans face skyrocketing healthcare premiums, they’re on vacation instead of doing their jobs. This crisis is preventable, if only they showed up to work for the American people.
The House hasn’t voted since September 19 — more than a month ago. Congress can still vote on legislation during a shutdown, but Speaker Johnson and House Republicans have refused to bring the House back into session.
We’ve lost a true friend and fighter. Bob Mulholland was a dedicated veteran, a passionate advocate for his community, and a tireless champion for Democratic values. Above all, he was a devoted husband to Jane. I’m grateful to have called him a friend. He’ll be deeply missed.
Speaker Johnson still refuses to swear in Rep.-elect Grijalva, leaving Arizona’s 7th District without representation for over three weeks since she won her election. It’s time to swear her in.

Preserving these natural treasures is vital to keeping America beautiful for generations to come.
Proud to have worked with President Obama and later President Biden to establish and expand the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument based on my legislation, protecting more than 340,000 acres of wildland in Northern California’s Inner Coast Range.
Congratulations to Linda Neal on being named the California Farm Bureau’s Agriculturalist of the Year! Linda’s words say it best: “I believe that anybody can do anything if they set their mind to it. You can’t do everything, but you can do anything if you work toward that goal."
Wildfires have devastated our farms and communities, destroying crops and livelihoods. That’s why I wrote the law to get federal relief to farmers when disaster strikes. Now, I’m working to extend that program so all Americans are protected from the growing threat of extreme weather.
We remember their sacrifice, and we recognize that remembrance itself can be a path to healing.
Honored to join the American Canyon community to celebrate The Wall That Heals exhibit — a powerful tribute to the 58,281 Americans who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. As a Vietnam combat veteran, I served alongside many whose names are etched on that wall.
The United States has never been ruled by kings, and this president is no exception. Our strength comes from our shared commitment to democracy. I joined members of our community to stand against this administration’s unjust actions. Together, we defend our rights. Don’t agonize — organize.
As an outdoorsman and conservationist, I know how important our national wildlife refuges are to our communities and environment. That’s why I’m proud to lead a bipartisan resolution recognizing National Wildlife Refuge Week.
