We can’t lose sight of the cruel reality that Donald Trump has created in this country. He has stripped health care away from millions. Taken food away from millions of hungry families. And made virtually everything more expensive.
Republicans in Washington are spending $70 billion MORE on ICE while so many across this country can’t even afford to put food on the table. We don’t suffer from a poverty of resources in this country. We suffer from a lack of moral imagination.
Happy Juneteenth! 161 years ago today, the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were finally freed. Let us celebrate our ancestors’ strength and resilience, and remind ourselves of the work we still have to do to create the future they dreamed of.
This is huge. For months, I have been working to stop the construction of a massive 10,000-person ICE facility in Social Circle, Georgia. We just learned DHS is cancelling it. The power of the people is always more powerful than the people in power.
11 years ago, a violent act against the faith community took the lives of nine worshippers at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. May God bless their memory. We must continue our fight to end racism and hate in every form.
14 years ago, DACA was established to provide protection and safety for young people who came here as children and know no other home. Dreamers are under attack by the President. Congress must create a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and fix our broken immigration system.
