We all knew this was going to happen – after Republicans ended ACA tax credits that kept health insurance affordable, millions are now dropping their coverage. It never had to be this way.
This morning’s Supreme Court ruling only further underscores the urgent need for Congress to protect and expand voting rights. We still need to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act.
The housing crisis is spiraling out of control. Americans can’t afford rent or the skyrocketing costs of ownership. We need to pass the ROAD to Housing Act so we can start taking meaningful action to lower Americans’ costs.
Particularly as an Alexandria resident, this bill to “make DC square again” is a sad, distracting attempt to disenfranchise Virginians. Republicans should join us in actually working to improve costs, health care, and housing… not doing partisan stunts.
If I can find any solace during this time, it’s that I have the enormous privilege to serve Virginians and the responsibility to keep working for a better, more just world in Maddy’s name.
Maddy was a deeply empathetic and engaged person. Even as recently as the day she passed, she was full of ideas and suggestions for me – especially how I could improve my social media to make a difference.
And we’re also going to need even bigger solutions – like having AI companies pay for some of this transition – in order to fully get ahead. We need bold policy solutions to meet this moment… and I’m continuing to press for action daily.
