When there’s a natural disaster, NOAA is on the frontlines. Trump and Musk’s plan to shut down NOAA would be a disaster for the millions of Oregonians and Americans who rely on NOAA’s accurate weather forecasting and emergency response services.
Their reckless actions have already interrupted critical research in Oregon.
The Science Committee held a hearing on “Ensuring U.S. Global Leadership,” but we cannot pretend that everything is normal when Trump and unelected billionaire Elon Musk are disrupting federal research and threatening scientists.
It was wonderful to join community members, students, and local leaders for Hillsboro’s State of the City. Hillsboro is a diverse and dynamic community, and I look forward to working with Mayor Pace and the City on our shared priorities.
Immigrant children are not “hiding” in American schools, as Trump would have you believe. Like any other student they are there to learn. As the Supreme Court found 43 years ago in Plyer v. Doe, there is no justification to deny children a public education solely on their immigration status.
Reminder: My joint town hall meetings with Senator Merkley will be held tomorrow on the North Coast. Please do not bring large bags and backpacks to the event.
We look forward to answering your questions.

My next town hall meeting is Friday Feb. 21 at Benson High School in Portland. Please do not bring large bags or backpacks to the event. I look forward to hearing from you!
I'm leading legislation with Rep. Espaillat and several colleagues to protect sensitive locations—including schools, hospitals, and places of worship—from ICE raids.
We should be working to keep students safe at school. By rescinding guidance that prevented ICE arrests near sensitive locations, the Trump administration is instilling fear in students in their classrooms.
Fire seasons in Oregon are increasingly destructive because of the climate crisis. Our state is losing critical U.S. Forest Service personnel tasked with wildfire preparedness and response efforts—including firefighters—because of Trump and Musk’s reckless cuts.

Today, I reaffirmed my oath of congressional office before friends, family, and community leaders in our district to make my highest values abundantly clear: my top priority will always be our community.
Thank you to the Pacific Ocean Energy Trust for inviting me to speak at the Northwest Offshore Wind Conference. Addressing the climate crisis is challenging but important work, and it must continue regardless of who is in the White House.

@sarajacobs.house.gov & @repbonamici.bsky.social break down the biggest challenges in America’s child care system on this episode of Madam Congress.
They discuss our work to support child care workers, expand access for service members, & invest in families & our economy.

I encourage everyone to keep in touch with my office and continue to speak out about how the Trump/Musk massive cuts, layoffs, and policies are affecting you and NW Oregon.
Thanks to everyone who attended my town hall meeting in Columbia County! It was good to hear the concerns of Oregonians in rural communities.
This week we remember the unjust incarceration of Japanese Americans who were sent to detention camps across the country during WWII, based solely on their heritage. History shows that locking up people in massive camps will not make us safer—no matter what the Trump administration claims.
Arielle rightly pointed out the absurdity of cutting research that will save the lives of moms and babies, including in Oregon. Elon Musk and his DOGE Bros might not care, but everyone with an ounce of compassion should.
Thank you to Arielle Kane, an Oregonian who was working in Washington DC doing important research to address our country’s high maternal mortality rate until she was abruptly fired by email a few days ago.
