Trump put in place the largest tax increase on the American people yesterday. Meanwhile, House Republicans ran out of DC early so they won't have to defend Trump's tax hike. On today's Democratic Daily Download, @repdelbene.bsky.social explains what this means for families, businesses and farmers.
The winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year, with the first-place winner and a guardian flown to DC for the exhibit unveiling! The deadline to submit artwork for the 2025 Congressional Art Competition is Thursday, April 17!
Attention #CA26 High School Artists! 👩‍🎨 Each year, I encourage talented young artists in grades 9-12 throughout #VenturaCounty and the Conejo Valley to participate in the Congressional Art Competition. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase our students’ creativity and talents.
Rather than lowering costs and ensuring access to nutritious meals, Republicans are pushing drastic cuts to SNAP in order to extend tax breaks for billionaires. At a time when grocery, housing, and other everyday costs remain high, these cuts are cruel, unnecessary, and unacceptable.
1 in 8 Americans rely on SNAP, including 17 million children, 8 million seniors, 1.2 million veterans, and 4.5 million people with disabilities. Nearly 20,000 people across Ventura County and the Conejo Valley depend on this vital program to put food on the table.
With food costs skyrocketing, lower-income families are struggling more than ever to put meals on the table. Yet, USDA suspended shipments of eggs, dairy, and meat meant for Food Share, a regional food bank that feeds over 250,000 people across #VenturaCounty.
He promised to lower costs on day one. Instead, he's driving up prices on groceries and household goods, sending the stock market into freefall, and alienating our allies – all while flip-flopping on economic policies he clearly doesn’t understand.
Rather than allow remote voting for colleagues on parental leave, Speaker Johnson canceled all votes for the week – choosing to shut down Congress instead of accommodating working parents. Once again, Republicans put their antiquated ideology over working for the American people.
American families deserve leaders who understand the struggles parents face.   That’s why @pettersen.house.gov is fighting to make Congress more accessible to parents and families through her bipartisan resolution to allow new parents in Congress to vote remotely after their child is born.
