While Republicans want to convince Americans that immigrants are the cause of the challenges facing our communities, the top 0.1% of Americans now control a record share of wealth. And the GOP is working to give another massive handout, paid for by gutting critical services like Medicaid and SNAP.
The wealthiest have gotten richer, and control a record share of America’s wealth. Total wealth for the richest 19 U.S. households jumped to about $2.6 trillion in 2024, the biggest one-year increase on record.
I was grateful to meet with NKC Fire Chief Williams & local fire chiefs throughout the region to hear about the impact cuts to the National Fire Academy will have on our communities & emergency preparedness. I’ll keep fighting to ensure these heroes receive the resources and support they deserve.
After igniting a trade war, crashing retirement portfolios, choking supply chains and small businesses, increasing costs, and destroying consumer confidence, the President is tipping his hand that he plans to fold after getting no concessions. The art of the deal!
Exclusive: The Trump administration is considering slashing its tariffs on Chinese imports, in some cases by more than half buff.ly/ZepELcz
The GOP know state budgets cannot fill the hole that their cuts to Medicaid would create. In Missouri, the proposed cuts to Medicaid & SNAP would blow a $2 BILLION hole in the budget, costing more than 20,000 jobs—all for another tax cut for billionaires. missouriindependent.com/2025/03/26/m...
Austin Scott previews how House Rs plan to cut Medicaid: "The federal govt is paying 90% of the Medicaid expansion. What we've talked about is moving that 90% level of the expansion back... nobody would be kicked off Medicaid as long as governors decided they wanted to continue to fund the program"
Enabled by Congressional Republicans, President Trump enacted the largest tax hike on American families and businesses in decades—and it’s having predictably harmful consequences. It’s time for Congress to end this dangerous experiment.
Breaking news: The global economy will slow sharply this year, weighed down by Trump’s imposition of the highest import taxes in more than a century and the cloud of uncertainty that has billowed in their wake, the International Monetary Fund said.
President Trump inherited an economy that was the “the envy of the world” and has done his best to drive it into a ditch in less than 100 days. We can still recover from this self-inflicted crisis, but Congressional Republicans must stand up to the President’s recklessness and chaos.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed almost 1,000 points on Monday and is headed for its worst April performance since 1932
This #EarthDay is a reminder that #ClimateCantWait With more extreme weather and unprecedented attacks on our health and environment, it is more important than ever to #StandStrongforClimate and take action to protect our planet and communities🌎📢 #OurPowerOurPlanet
I’m grateful to those who took the time to attend last night’s town hall with @davids.house.gov & myself. We all have a role to play in pushing back against the chaos of the current administration—and I appreciate your thoughts, voices, and presence as we stand together to protect our communities.
If you have questions you want to submit to your elected officials, you can send them in this form: Today we have in attendance @cleaver.house.gov and @davids.house.gov. Other Missouri and Kansas elected officials were invited to join us, but declined or did not respond to multiple requests.
More recklessness and incompetence from the Defense Secretary that undermines America’s national security. He should resign or be fired before an entirely avoidable catastrophe occurs.

“One longtime Kansas City economic researcher said he believes the region could lose 6,000 good-paying federal jobs, which in turn would wipe out thousands of others in service industries.” The result of Elon Musk’s reckless cuts to government services. apnews.com/article/doge...
Pope Francis was a force for good, who led with grace, humility, and love for all of God’s children. May his memory be a blessing to all, and may his legacy inspire us to continue the work to build a more just and righteous world for the generations to come.
Pope Francis died at 88, the Vatican announced Monday, ending a pontificate that sought to reshape the Roman Catholic Church into a more inclusive institution. Cardinals will now decide whether to continue his approach or restore more doctrinaire leadership. Follow live updates: nyti.ms/42RZB9n

During Easter, we rejoice in the miracle of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and delight in the love and blessings of this holy day. Wishing all those observing in #MO05 and around the world a very happy Easter!
Only 25% of eligible families currently receive federal rental assistance to help afford rent, with many more on a waitlist and in need of help. Gutting the voucher program as homelessness & housing prices are on a historic rise is deeply cruel and will have a devastating impact on our communities.
NEW: President Trump is preparing a budget with deep cuts to federal housing programs, including vouchers for the poor. Today, the admin took steps to sell HUD headquarters, and so far, about 2300 workers have taken "deferred resignation" offers to leave. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/17/u...
My heart breaks for the families of the victims, those injured, and the entire Florida State community as they reel from the latest mass shooting in America. There are steps we can take to protect America’s schools and universities—but Congress must have the courage to ACT, not just pray.
The gunman accused of killing at least two people and injuring six others on Thursday in a shooting at Florida State University is a current student at the school and his mother is a sheriff’s deputy, officials said. Here's what we know so far.
