Five years ago, I served as an impeachment manager during Trump’s 2nd impeachment trial to hold the President accountable for his role in the attack. Today, I joined House Democrats for the reconvening of the January 6th Committee panel to continue to reckon with the damage the President has done.
In the months leading up to the attack, President Trump tried to overturn the results of a free and fair election. During the attack, Trump abdicated his responsibilities as commander-in-chief and incited chaos and lawlessness.
Today, we look back on the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol—a deadly attempt to obstruct the peaceful transfer of power.
It is a stain on our nation’s history.
We will spend billions “running” Venezuela just to make a handful of companies and billionaires richer.
Trump’s regime change war is about oil.
If it was about dictators, more brutal authoritarian leaders wouldn't rule.
If it was about communism, China wouldn't be one of our biggest trading partners.
If it was about drugs, Trump wouldn't have pardoned Juan Orlando Hernandez.

The President must brief the Congress. We cannot put our troops in harm's way over Trump's reckless pursuit of power, oil and land.
The President’s motives are also dubious. He declared a few weeks ago that this operation was about oil and land. I fear that he will do what he has done in other parts of the world – use this conflict to enrich himself, his family, and his cronies.
I hope for the best for the Venezuelan people, but I’m concerned this regime change operation risks destabilizing the country further.
