Earlier this week, I toured Cornell Forge Company in Bedford Park. We discussed the importance of the forging industry in the supply chain for different markets, including critical industries in defense and agriculture.
Congress must do everything possible to make our communities safer from gun violence. I teamed up with Rep. Hank Johnson and Senators Amy Klobuchar and Gary Peters to introduce legislation to combat the increased use and proliferation of dangerous gun conversion devices. Read more:
Today is Medicaid Day of Action. In IL-06, the 130,479 people on Medicaid are at risk of losing their health care under Republican budget plans. This includes 55,585 children under the age of 19 and 17,000 seniors over 65 in IL-06. We must protect America's single largest health care provider.
Over the weekend, I was honored to attend the annual Ramadan interfaith Iftar hosted by the Baet-ul-Jaamay Mosque in Glen Ellyn. I enjoyed the opportunity to connect with the community during the Ramadan season.
While there may be disagreement with Mr. Khalil’s speech, it is his Constitutional right to express his political views. Every American should be outraged by this brazen and dangerous abuse of power.
Weaponizing the immigration system to crush & chill protected free speech puts our nation on the side of authoritarian leaders like Vladimir Putin & Xi Jinping. I joined over 100 of my House Democratic colleagues in demanding answers from the Trump Administration about the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil.
Using the power of the government to target your enemies and scapegoat immigrants has resonance with the darkest moments of history, including but not limited to the Holocaust. America is better than this. The Administration's actions undermine due process and are fundamentally un-American.
The Trump Administration is not a good-faith actor on matters of antisemitism. Their record of embracing neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, support of Nazi salutes by Elon Musk and Steve Bannon, and Donald Trump’s own assertion that he only wants “Jews to count his money” speak for themselves.
While I am still gathering information about Mahmoud Khalil’s case, detaining someone and threatening to revoke their legal immigration status without evidence of a crime—simply because you disagree with their beliefs—is a gross violation of the First Amendment.
Elon Musk should not have access to private citizens’ personal data that they have shared with the federal government. I teamed up with Rep. Stevens to introduce the Taxpayer Data Protection Act, legislation that ensures US private citizens’ data is not subject to reckless and unlawful interference.
🚨 NEWS: I partnered with Reps. Jan Schakowsky and Jerry Nadler to lead 73 House Democrats in demanding that the Department of Justice fully enforce the FACE Act and ensure women and health care providers are not threatened, harassed, or abused while entering reproductive health facilities.
Today, I visited the O'Hare International Airport Control Tower with Chicago air traffic controllers. These are hardworking and dedicated civil servants focused on keeping our skies safe. We owe them our gratitude.
Banks that operate without a Chief Risk Officer jeopardize American’s hard-earned savings. That’s why I introduced the Chief Risk Officer Enforcement and Accountability Act, legislation to require large banks to employ a Chief Risk Officer and to increase public transparency. Read more:
