Gilbert Ray Cisneros Jr. is an American politician and former naval officer serving as the U.S. representative for California's 31st congressional district since 2025. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness in the Biden administration and was the U.S. representative for California's 39th congressional district from 2019 to 2021.

This week, I welcomed representatives of community health centers that serve CA-31. Thank you for continuing to save lives and protect the health of our community members.
The Department of Education's proposed rule, omitting nursing as a "professional degree" will shrink the pipeline and undermine access to quality healthcare. We must do more to lower barriers to entry and invest in our healthcare workers.
This week, I had a great conversation with my constituents, NP RNs Melinda and Liza Mae, about the challenges faced by nurses and hospitals today, including recent rule changes that place higher barriers to entry for prospective nurses.

This week, I met with Rio Hondo College to discuss the importance of TRIO programs, MSI funding, and ensuring our students' basic needs are met. I am committed to working for our students to ensure they are able to reach their higher education and career goals.

Today, I welcomed Buddhist monks to Capitol Hill as they near the end of their walk for peace. These monks walked 2,300 miles over more than 15 weeks to encourage unity, compassion, and gratitude. What a powerful demonstration of peace.
I met with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Drinking safe water is a vital resource we all need to be healthy. During our meeting, we discussed how to keep drinking water clean, accessible, and affordable for Southern California!
Last week, I met with the San Gabriel Water Quality Authority here in Washington to discuss their Community Project Funding for the 2026 fiscal year. I will continue supporting their efforts to clean up the San Gabriel Basin and am grateful for their service protecting waterways in our community.
