[2/2] Who knows how much longer the death and destruction will continue, but with his latest contradictory statements tonight, Trump increasingly appears to be looking for a way out by declaring victory after failing to achieve any of his original objectives.
[1/2] Now that we are in week 5 of what Trump told us would be a 4–5 week war, he claims that it will only take another 2–3 weeks. Of course, Iran also has a vote on when this war ends.
I am pleased that our TSA officers are finally getting paid but let’s be clear: they should have never been put in this position. If Trump had the power to pay them all along, why not act promptly to prevent the hardships that they endured and the chaos at so many airports?
I led Texas Democrats in demanding DHS abandon Big Bend’s border wall. The rugged terrain already deters crossings; a wall would only choke wildlife and trigger flash floods. We cannot let taxpayer dollars destroy one of America’s crown jewels for a barrier that isn't needed.
[2/2] These economists forecast a major increase in the inflation rate from 2.4% to 4% raising costs across the board. This Trumpflation means that Americans will pay the price for his war of choice at the pump and at the grocery store.
[1/2] After repeatedly promising to bring prices down, Trump has done just the opposite. First his tariff taxes, now his reckless war with Iran and the rising price of gas. A new report by The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) estimates that even more pain lies ahead.
[2/2] Last year, he fired a thousand employees and threatened those remaining to “show loyalty to the Trump Administration” in order to keep their jobs. A federal judge has now ruled Trump's action illegal, but interference with truth telling continues.
[1/2] The Voice of America has long been the voice of our country to the world, offering objective independent journalism that could be trusted. Trump, of course, insists that it be used only for propaganda and self-promotion.
[2/2] After a distinguished career advancing Medicare and Social Security, Cohen came to Austin to teach at UT.  Now, this national treasure is on the chopping block as federal buildings are being sold off to developers with little public awareness or oversight.
[1/2] I led colleagues, staffers, and art preservation experts on a tour of the Wilbur J. Cohen Building —called the "Sistine Chapel of New Deal art." Just blocks from the Capitol, it houses one of the most significant collections of New Deal-era art in the United States.
[2/2] While rightly concerned about the immediate crises in Ukraine and Iran, we must also continue to focus on our transatlantic relationship as it evolves over the coming decade.
[1/2] Great discussion with Dr. Alexandra de Hoop Scheffer, President of the German Marshall Fund—a critical organization supporting transatlantic relations and understanding. We need a strong Europe and a strong US, not torn apart by mean tweets, disrespectful attacks, and support for extremists.
[2/2] Trump denied TSA workers about $1 billion in missed paychecks—resulting in nearly 500 agents quitting and many receiving eviction and repossession notices, difficulty feeding their families, and an inability to afford health care.
[1/2] Trump now claims he has had authority to pay TSA all along. If so, why wait six weeks? Unless he preferred chaos and burdening workers and passengers—holding them hostage to block a legislative halt to ICE abuses.
GOP House Speaker Johnson has called the bipartisan bill to pay TSA officers now “a joke!” The only joke here, and it is a very bad one, are extremist Republicans who refuse to provide relief to TSA officers and air passengers by paying them now, and resolving our disagreements over ICE abuse later.
[2/2] ...refuses to let us vote on the Senate-approved bill because he does not have approval from extremists in his Caucus. With the Senate now in recess, GOP intransigence may continue chaos at our airports much longer.
[1/2] Why can’t Congress get anything done? Today, the answer once again is loud and clear. Even after weeks of pain for TSA officers and passengers waiting in interminable lines, House GOP refuse to act. A clear majority of House members is ready to pay TSA immediately, but Speaker Johnson...
[2/2] Why cause such pain for so long? Apparently, just seeking leverage to maintain brutal ICE policies. Tuesday, I joined SiriusXM, about Trump’s deployment of untrained ICE & National Guard, who have no role in airports. Last year, Trump fired TSA workers, this year he held their pay hostage.
