Trump is again undermining our schools.
Instead of using taxpayer dollars to fund vital public school programs like mental health services and career readiness, he is diverting as many public resources as possible to private schools—most notably through the new voucher scheme approved by the House.

On this Memorial Day, a number of veterans and their families are remembering not only the American fallen but also the Afghans who put their lives on the line to protect and assist them, but are now being unjustifiably abandoned by Donald Trump to a perilous future.
On Memorial Day and every day, let us honor our nation's fallen heroes while reaffirming our commitment to defend democracy and freedom at home.
We owe these brave servicemembers who paid the ultimate sacrifice, and their families, immeasurable gratitude.
After testifying before the Senate, Austin Community College Chancellor Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart visited my office with Vice Chancellors Dr. Garrett Groves and Dr. Chris Cervini, and Trustee Chair Sean Hassan to discuss the vital role Pell Grants and workforce development play in economic growth.
GOP continues march to tyranny as it schemes to award Trump power to ignore federal court orders. After so many Trump court losses, including rulings by Trump-appointed judges, Republicans in Congress are trying to neuter the Judicial Branch.
This cannot be allowed to become law.
Celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month alongside @capac.house.gov and colleagues at a Night Market held in the Capitol.
The significant contributions of our #AANHPI communities in Austin propel Central Texas forward & create a more inclusive space for all.
Defacing mosques is as wrong as defacing synagogues. Austin must remain a place that rejects both antisemitism and Islamophobia.
While Trump/Musk gleefully slash Dept of Veterans Affairs and fire more veterans than any President in history, Trump is spending at least $45 million on a military parade on his birthday.
Thanks, but no Tanks. Such birthday military displays are best left with the dictators who crave them.
Always a pleasure to meet Austin Area Urban League leaders Quincy Dunlap and Téa Johnson, as they expand opportunity for all by providing critical workforce development to the Central Texas area.
I will keep fighting to ensure they have the support and resources needed.
Murdering the innocent does nothing to free Palestine. It only makes peace less likely.
A tragic loss of lives in DC and a tragic setback to efforts to secure a better future for both Israelis and Palestinians.
A horrifying investigation and courageous whistleblowers reveal a Medicare DisAdvantage plan secretly paid bonuses to nursing homes for obstructing urgent health care.
This disgusting abuse cannot stand.
By killing clean energy investments and allowing more air and water pollution, we will pay not only in dollars but with our health. (2/2)
The ugly details of Trump’s “big beautiful” bill - higher electricity costs, loss of hundreds of thousands of clean energy jobs, and reversal of modest response to the climate crisis, about which Republicans are in denial. (1/2)
Real change comes through courage, compassion, and a shared respect for human dignity — not through bloodshed. Let’s continue to raise our voices forcefully for peace. (2/2)
The murder of two young Israeli Embassy employees outside the Capital Jewish Museum should be condemned by all. Violence only begets more violence. It silences dialogue, deepens division, and delays justice. (1/2)
I voted NO on Trump's ugly bill of lies that rips health care away from nearly 14 million Americans.
Adding trillions to our national debt, Republican deficit hawks, who talk fiscal responsibility but serve their cult leader, became chicken hawks in submission to the self-described “King of Debt.”
Horrific news that two Israeli embassy staff members were murdered outside the Capital Jewish Museum, a place of remembrance, reflection, and community. My prayers are with their loved ones mourning this tragic loss.
Another ground stop for flights arriving at AUS means more unnecessary traveler inconvenience due to FAA failure to correct our air traffic controller shortage.
The Trump Admin continues to shrink the FAA workforce & delay proper safety measures for our overwhelmed, overworked local controllers.
Not even one baby should be allowed to starve, but by Netanyahu blocking aid to Gaza, 14,000 babies risk death soon unless the blockade is fully lifted.
Permitting so few trucks to enter after over 70 days has been rightly described as a “drop in the ocean” of what’s needed.
For his good humor and strong commitment, he will be missed by so many of us in Congress and by those whom he directly served in Virginia.
Deepest condolences to his family and the great team he led. (2/2)
