We’ve already seen firsthand in Howard County how crucial state and local action is in the fight to stop the Trump Administration’s weaponization of ICE in our communities, and I’m proud that Team Maryland is once again standing up to protect our neighbors.

UPDATE: @oagmaryland.bsky.social has filed a lawsuit to stop the Trump Administration’s unlawful construction of the proposed immigration detention facility in Hagerstown – challenging their attempt to build the facility without following proper procedure or allowing for public input.
Last night, I attended the President’s State of the Union address. Here’s why and here were my takeaways:
Here’s my take on President Trump’s State of the Union address.
As your Congresswoman, it is my honor to nominate our talented high school students to our distinguished military academies. Please join me in congratulating Connor!
Highlight of my day: Calling Connor to let him know that he has just received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy! Even on the busiest days in Washington – and the State of the Union is certainly one of them – our youngest constituents give me hope and optimism.
Team USA not only brought home 33 medals, but their performance on the world stage was an incredible representation of our country’s promise: a place where anyone and everyone has the opportunity to pursue their dreams. Go Team USA! 🇺🇸
Congratulations to Team USA on an incredible performance, including Bryan Sosoo, a Team USA bobsledder from #MD03’s own Laurel, Maryland!
As a leader in the fight against President Trump’s cruel and reckless policies and the first Afro-Latina to serve as a presiding legislative officer in our country, the Speaker reminds us what our country can be at its best. I’m proud to have her by my side at tonight’s address.
I’m thrilled to announce that my guest for tonight’s State of the Union Address will be my dear friend and colleague: Maryland Speaker of the House Joseline Peña-Melnyk!
On the House Armed Services and in my conversations with our global allies, I have been clear that we must continue to stand with Ukraine and our NATO allies to not only put an end to this devastating conflict, but to secure the region and reaffirm our commitment to our crucial allies.
Four years ago today, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in an attempt to overthrow the sovereign, democratic government & reclaim the country under Russian influence. Over these years, Russia’s invasion has cost 1.2 million soldiers’ lives & killed nearly 15,000 Ukrainian civilians.
We’re working hand in hand on everything from responding to investing in affordable housing to responding to increased ICE activity in our neighborhoods to mitigating flooding downtown. Grateful to have such a strong partner in Mayor Littmann!
Our Cardin Tour continues with Annapolis Mayor Jared Littmann! The snow might have pushed back our meeting, but I’m glad we were able to sit down to discuss our shared policy priorities to support the 40,000+ residents who call Annapolis home.
But National Invasive Species Awareness Week also reminds us that we can all play a part in combating invasive species. Whether it’s ordering blue catfish on a menu or using it in pet food, we can all lend a hand in protecting our environment.
That’s why Rep. Rob Wittman and I introduced the bipartisan MAWS Act to create a new market for blue catfish in the pet food industry and remove them from our waterways. It’s moved unanimously out of the House Natural Resources Committee and will be coming to the House floor soon!
➡️ They can live up to 20 years & weigh up to 100 pounds.
➡️Their diet consists of seafood industry staples, including blue crabs, rockfish, & oysters.
➡️ Blue catfish are not only contributing to the Bay’s biodiversity challenge, but also causing significant economic damage to our seafood industry.
Did you know this week is National Invasive Species Awareness Week? One major invasive species we deal with here in #MD03 – and across the Chesapeake Bay – is blue catfish.
Here are some fast facts about invasive blue catfish:
➡️ Invasive blue catfish do not have any natural predators in the Bay.
