The recent tragedies in Minnesota are not isolated incidents – they are part of a larger deadly pattern. Last year, 25 people died in ICE custody – and in January of this year alone, 8 people have died in ICE custody.
As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I worked closely with APG’s Army Alliance on last year’s NDAA, & I look forward to continuing to collaborate with Army Alliance & its representatives as we kick off this year’s NDAA process & find ways to support the Maryland defense community.
I sat down with Harford County Executive (and my former Maryland Senate colleague!) Bob Cassilly and Chair Larry Muzzello to strategize ways to improve critical water and wastewater infrastructure, support small businesses, and further advance research and development.
Founded in 1999, the Army Alliance of Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) has helped advance APG’s national security interests and economic role in the region by supporting crucial programming, research, and development initiatives.
It has been 53 days since Attorney General Pam Bondi was required to release the Epstein files under the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act. The DOJ has only released an estimated half of the files, with many of them heavily redacted.
We have such incredible partners on #TeamMaryland, including @govwesmoore.bsky.social, @vanhollen.senate.gov, @alsobrooks.senate.gov, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball, Chair Opel Jones, the Howard County Council, our partners in the General Assembly & the neighbors who supported this legislation.
Big news from Howard County: the emergency legislation to prohibit privately owned buildings from operating as detention centers was officially signed into law! To have a bill introduced, heard, voted on, and signed in just one week’s time speaks to the swift and decisive action of Howard County.
I’m grateful we could sit down with #MD03’s own, Howard County State’s Attorney Rich Gibson, Baltimore City State's Attorney Ivan Bates and Deputy State’s Attorney Catherine Flynn, and Chief Counsel for Frederick County Joyce King to strategize around these issues and more.
Improving prosecutor hiring and retention rates, combating the opioid crisis, protecting public student loan forgiveness, and supporting victims of violent crime: just some of the topics covered in #TeamMaryland’s meeting last week with our States Attorneys!
House Democrats will continue to push for a thorough, impartial investigation into the deaths of Good and Pretti and keep demanding full accountability of ICE to put an end to the weaponization of ICE against our neighbors.
NEW: A report by @oversightdemocrats.bsky.social has revealed that the Trump Administration’s endorsement of extreme policies and violent tactics for ICE agents led to the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti – despite Committee analysis finding that Good and Pretti posed no threat to officers.
Last year our team closed 1,087 constituent cases and returned $873,292 directly to constituents! Pat from Annapolis was having a difficult time with Social Security - and our team was able to step in and ensure she received the benefits her family has earned.
✔️House Democrats have proposed real, common sense solutions to reform ICE – including requiring warrants for ICE to enter private property, ensuring agents wear body cameras, stopping racial profiling, unmasking agents, prohibiting ICE from entering schools, churches, and more.
✔️Howard County Council signed into law legislation to prohibit privately owned buildings from operating as detention centers within our communities. Howard County is leading the nation in standing up for our neighbors. I was proud to testify in support of this legislation & join the bill signing.
My Democratic colleagues and I are united in the fight for full accountability and transparency from DHS and ICE. Here’s a quick update on actions we’ve taken over the last week: ✔️I voted NO once again on additional funding for ICE.
More special visitors to the Capitol this week: the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, including St. John’s here in #MD03. Together, we discussed innovative solutions around financial aid, as well as new projects at St. John’s.
