The Trump administration’s announced policy to cut funding for medical research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is terrible for #TX07 and for our country. My statement ⬇️
It is inexplicable and unacceptable that shadow President Elon Musk has gotten access to Treasury’s highly sensitive payment system for paying Social Security and Medicare, tax refunds, and more. Glad to join @casten.house.gov in one of many efforts to stop it.
This Congress must assert its authority and do its work. President Trump and House and Senate Republicans are allowing Elon Musk to substitute his judgment for that of the Congress at any time. It is unconstitutional and unconscionable, and I urged my @energycommerce.bsky.social colleagues to act.
People in #TX07 are concerned that Elon Musk, an unelected billionaire, has gotten access to the U.S. Treasury's payment system, our personal data, and more.
And they should be. It is outrageous. And dangerous.
That's why I support the efforts to stop this unprecedented and unacceptable access.
This week's Energy subcommittee hearing showed us another way unelected billionaire Elon Musk is creating chaos where we don't need it: reducing the federal workforce of experts we need in our energy sector to issue permits and keep us safe. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpM5...
@housedemocrats.bsky.social will continue to fight for the health, dignity, freedom, privacy, and autonomy of women and families across our country. We will not give up. [4/4]
Today, @markey.senate.gov and I introduced the #RightToContraception Act to respond to the very real threats to reproductive health care and bodily autonomy that we face today.
And it's not just Texas. Justice Clarence Thomas has said the Court should reconsider its decisions protecting fundamental rights to privacy, including the right to use birth control from Griswold v. Connecticut. [2/4]
Texas is ground zero in the fight for reproductive rights. When it comes to contraception, Texas is 1 of 7 states that allows pharmacists to refuse to fill birth control prescriptions based on their personal beliefs.[1/4]
In Houston, we know what unleashing American energy can and should look like. And we are ready to do it. Now, President Trump has declared a national energy emergency, halting projects important for our city, state, and future. Follow our @energycommerce.bsky.social hearing on this today. ⬇️
The Trump administration has taken actions to block funds that Congress appropriated because they do not match its policy agenda. This attempt to divert funds promised to American families and communities–unilaterally and unlawfully–is wrong.
The Meyergrove Detention Basin shows us why infrastructure investments are so important and why having government that works efficiently, effectively, and collaboratively at every level is what we need, deserve, and can have. [2/2]
Today, I was thrilled to cut the ribbon and take a tour of the Meyergrove Detention Basin in #TX07 with community partners including @rodneyellis.bsky.social, @abbiekamin.bsky.social, and Harris County Flood Control District! [1/2]
📂 @housedemocrats.bsky.social worked to take out the middle man, and now you can file your taxes directly with the IRS. Millions of Texans are eligible for this free service—visit DirectFile.irs.gov to see if you are one of them.
With all that is going on, it is important today that we remember and honor Fred Korematsu, who fought internment of Japanese Americans in WWII, taking his case to the Supreme Court to fight against injustice and for fair treatment for all Americans.

Thinking of all those who died in last night's devastating collision in DC. My heart goes out to all who loved them. Grateful for the first responders who rushed to help and are still working in recovery efforts, as well as all who work tirelessly to keep us safe in the skies.
It might look like incompetence. But it's not.
The chaos, confusion, and cruelty are the point.
Thanks to the Houston Chronicle Editorial Board for explaining so clearly what’s happening with the week-old Trump Administration, and why it’s so bad. A must read.

The Trump administration is blocking critical funding for projects in #TX07 and across the country. Projects authorized in laws we passed to invest in America—in #TX07 and across the country.
I joined @hoyer.house.gov in demanding transparency and answers.
To all those celebrating in #TX07 and around the world, Happy Lunar New Year! May this Year of the Snake bring wisdom, creativity, and transformation.
