Maybe we could take a break from ALWAYS finding a way to criticize Democrats for Republican malfeasance. There is virtually nothing Beshear can do to change this situation. Place the blame where it belongs.
Every time I post about a Blu-ray the conversation goes like this:
Person: Not all of us are rich enough to have Blu-ray players. :(
Me: There are good ones for under $100. It's worth it.
Person: But a top-of-the-line one costs $500 or more.
Me: [deep, patient breath] Then DON'T BUY ONE OF THOSE.
Movie lovers! A true rarity, Frank Perry's dark 1969 teen drama LAST SUMMER, is out on Blu-ray in a gorgeous restoration spearheaded by @larrythek.bsky.social. Hard to find for decades; it's never looked better. A must for many reasons, esp. Catherine Burns's exquisite Oscar-nominated performance.
I'm listening to the audiobook of a novel called Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico. It's about a couple named Anna and Tom and the British audiobook reader keeps saying "Anneran Tom" and it makes my American ears scream.
Good the-way-we-live-now* novel; world-class author name.

The idea that these movies are supposed to be swift and fun—which was so deftly set up 18 years ago in Iron Man—now feels buried under tons of leaden fan service and 1960s-Biblical-epic-level self-seriousness. And it looks ugly.
My review of the Avengers trailer: That Thor guy really likes to talk, I guess.

I am seeing The Odyssey this weekend in a beach-town moviehouse with rocky projection and so-so sound. I think it's going to be great. I look forward to watching it under optimal conditions down the road, but good movies work however imperfectly you see them, period, the end.
