I submitted testimony to the ITC today because our trade laws are crucial in protecting our thriving steel industry from other countries flooding our markets, pushing workers out of a job, & putting our industries out of production.

This opportunity brings our community together to discuss issues impacting the quality of life in Northwest Indiana, and I intend to take the personal stories in our community back to Washington to fight for our region.

I invite residents to attend one of my Community Conversations on August 27, 2025, where I look forward to providing an update on the 119th Congress and hearing directly from constituents about the issues that matter most.
From our recent water infrastructure ribbon cutting in Portage, I look forward to building on this partnership to deliver results that improve the quality of life and create more economic activity in communities across Northwest Indiana.
Grateful for the recent invitation to tour the Konrady Plastics facility in Portage and meet employees on the job. Thank you for your contributions to the strength of our economy.
No matter what district they put me in, I will fight for working class people. I will fight for fair education. I will fight for access to healthcare & Medicare. And I will not allow our most vulnerable to be left behind. Watch my full remarks at our press conference here: youtu.be/ILfUQWFVSdo?...
My mission throughout my career as a public servant and as a Member of the U.S. House is to advocate for the most vulnerable in our communities. Any attempt to redistrict now is simply an attempt to silence those very voices. mrvan.house.gov/media/press-...
From our recent roundtable discussion I think the message is clear: We do things efficiently here in the region, and cuts to Medicaid will devastate the ability of providers to deliver care.
Thank you to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the leaders of the City of Portage for their collaborative efforts to complete these vital upgrades to our water infrastructure. www.chicagotribune.com/2025/07/31/p...
This region’s commitment to education and training sends a clear message that Northwest Indiana is not only open for business, but we have the skilled workforce to get the job done.

Northwest Indiana is a community of people who work hard to get ahead, & I’m grateful that this conversation can focus on the invaluable contributions from unions and their apprenticeship programs, nonprofits, & technical education programs offered at high schools & institutions of higher education.
Thank you to @budzinski.house.gov, all of our colleagues in the @newdems.bsky.social, and all of the participants today for this discussion on how we can continue to collaborate together to create more work and wealth in Northwest Indiana and communities across our country.
I thank all of the representatives from our region’s CMHCs and FQHCs for the invaluable services that they provide and for participating in this timely roundtable discussion. I look forward to continuing to partner with you and will not back down in advocating to reinstate these cuts to Medicaid.
Appreciate the opportunity to meet with Amina Taylor and the enthusiastic students at Amina’s Beauty College recently in Merrillville. I thank you for your contributions to our regional economy and wish you all continued success!
It is wrong for the Republican Majority to capitulate to this cruel request from the Administration. As a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, we must reverse this misguided action that undermines our ability to trust the implementation of bipartisan legislative agreements.
Many communities rely on National Public Radio and local stations funded under the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, not just for news and educational programming, but often as their sole source for emergency weather-related information.
I opposed this bill because it will make our nation less safe.

Below are my remarks from the House Appropriations Committee last week in support of the ARPA-E program that promotes cutting-edge technologies for our domestic steel industry and industrial manufacturing.
It was a pleasure meeting with students earlier this year from Immanuel Lutheran School in Valparaiso prior to their tour of the U.S. Capitol Building! Please contact my office if you ever plan to visit our nation’s capital and we are happy to assist with providing information on available tours!
Had a great time visiting with the leaders and team at All Things Autism recently in Gary. Thank you for the incredible services and support you provide for our community and all individuals and families impacted by autism!

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
