Trump's cuts to wildfire mitigation are flat out dangerous to communities - this isn't government efficiency, it's him de-prioritizing public safety. And it's a slap in the face to everyone in California coming on the heels of the Los Angeles wildfires. 1/2 apnews.com/article/fire...
After growing up in the height of the Jim Crow era, John Lewis devoted his life to advancing civil rights in the United States. He fought tirelessly to make this country a government for the people, by the people. His presence is truly missed. Happy birthday, Congressman Lewis.
Journalists play a vital role in holding powerful institutions accountable. The recent actions of Trump and Musk toward the press are deeply troubling and deserve strong condemnation.
My wife & I openly share our IVF story because many families like ours rely on this vital healthcare. I stand with @reprocaucus.bsky.social in fighting to expand IVF access, rather than hollow efforts from Republicans actively threatening support for reproductive rights & healthcare access.
"Donald Trump is not serious about protecting people’s right to build their families on their terms, and yesterday’s inaction does not change that." Read our full statement from Co-Chairs @degette.house.gov & @pressley.house.gov 👇.
On Feb. 19, 1942, Executive Order 9066 was signed, which forcibly sent innocent Japanese Americans to internment camps. Tanforan in San Bruno was one of these detention centers where Americans were wrongfully held. As a member of @capac.house.gov, I'll always fight to protect our civil liberties.
Honoring the prolific leader, abolitionist, and writer Frederick Douglass today. Born into slavery in 1818, Douglass escaped to freedom and became one of the key abolitionist movement leaders. Through his tireless efforts and contributions, America has become more equitable and free.
In California - Medicaid provides essential health care for: 43.1% of all children 40% of moms giving birth & their newborn babies 48% of working-age adults with disabilities 61% of people in nursing homes 22.8% of adults aged 19-64 Graphic below shows nationwide coverages:
Republicans care more about tax breaks for billionaires than health care for those in need. Medicaid provides health coverage to 10.4 million Californians – that's 27.2% of CA's population! See comment below for which of your neighbors will be harmed if their plan succeeds 🧵
Started in 1909 by prominent activists including W.E.B. Dubois & Ida B. Wells, the NAACP has grown to be America’s largest civil rights organization with over 2,200 branches across the country, including San Mateo. I'm grateful for the work they do to make our country better. naacpsanmateo.org
My office has been getting hundreds of calls from constituents who are concerned about the Trump Administration's actions. Here are just a few examples of the calls we've been receiving.
As someone who lost a parent to cancer, I am gravely concerned about the Trump Administration’s plan to shut down public-facing work at NIH. This decision will threaten our ability to research life-saving cures. I joined my colleagues in asking NIH to resume this critical work.
If you or a loved one has cancer or Alzheimer's, or are in clinical trials for these or other diseases, you should know the Musk-Trump shutdown of medical research funding is a major threat to our ability to find cures. We are shouting this out with one voice: beyer.house.gov/news/documen...
