President Trump’s decision to launch air strikes on Iran without Congressional consultation or approval absent an imminent threat to the United States risks triggering a broader regional war that drags us deeper into an avoidable conflict with no clear strategy.
The House spent a week in recess after passing a bill to codify cuts to federal funding for public broadcasting and foreign aid requested by President Trump as tensions flared at home and in the Middle East.
My constituent Ben Bumgarner has Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Without Medicaid, he would not have received gene transfer therapy at @childrensatvcu.bsky.social, and his mother could not care for him at home. I’m fighting to ensure the Bumgarner family does not lose their health care.

The American people want their leaders to bring down the cost of living. Instead, House Republicans and the Trump Administration prioritized cancelling funding for AIDS prevention and public broadcasting. I joined @newdems.bsky.social against Trump’s rescissions bill.
New Democrat Coalition Leadership on the House passage of President Trump’s rescissions bill, which cancels $9.4 billion in funding for foreign assistance, global AIDS prevention, and public broadcasting newdemocratcoalition.house.gov/media-center...
The Trump Administration ignores the Constitution it is supposed to preserve, protect and defend. Now, it seeks to intimidate, assault and arrest members of Congress like @replamonica.bsky.social and @padilla.senate.gov as they exercise their constitutional oversight duties.
“Tell the Court I love my wife and it is just unfair that I can’t live with her in Virginia.”  That was from Richard Loving, who was arrested with his wife Mildred for violating Virginia’s ban on interracial marriage. OTD in 1967, SCOTUS struck down that law in Loving v. Virginia. #LovingDay

I joined @demwomencaucus.bsky.social, @whipkclark.bsky.social and @amyklobuchar.com to highlight how the Big Ugly Bill is a Big Betrayal of women. Stripping health insurance, restricting abortion coverage purchasing out of health exchanges and defunding Planned Parenthood harms women’s health.
In addition to concerns about the Department of Energy’s FY26 budget request, my office has consistently heard from Virginians concerned about workforce cuts, grant funding freezes and lack of communication from DOE. I raised these concerns with Energy Secretary Chris Wright and demanded answers.
June is Men’s Health Month. This year’s theme highlights the importance of encouraging early detection and treatment. I joined @reptroycarter.bsky.social to anchor a Congressional Black Caucus Special Order Hour on how cuts to Medicaid and our workforce threaten these efforts.
Public broadcasting strengthens our communities and often provides the only coverage of local and state government actions. Trump wants to defund it because he doesn’t like everything he sees.  This censorship threatens the freedom of the press guaranteed by the First Amendment.
Gun violence robs us of our loved ones, erodes our sense of security, and shortens too many bright futures.  Enough is enough. Today, I joined the @everytown.bsky.social and @momsdemand.bsky.social #WearOrange event in Richmond to amplify the need for action to prevent gun violence.

June is National Ocean Month, a time to reflect on the ocean’s vital role in our health, environment, economy, and recreation. The climate crisis presents the greatest threat ever to ocean health. This #WorldOceansDay, we must recommit to catalyzing action for our oceans and climate.

Sixty years ago today, Griswold v. Connecticut recognized a right to privacy and struck down a Connecticut law banning access to contraception.  Today, the rights to privacy and contraception are under attack. I’m cosponsoring the Right to Contraception Act to enshrine that right into federal law.
