As Minnesota’s Chief Federal Judge held, “ICE is not a law unto itself.”   I strongly support an independent investigation into the unjustified killing of Renee Good and voted in committee to subpoena camera footage and related records.   We must have accountability.
JUST IN: Judge Schiltz cancels Friday’s contempt hearing but lights into ICE, saying the agency may have violated more court orders this month than many others have in their entire existence. “ICE is not a law unto itself.”
Now that the news is out, I’m getting back to work for DC.   Given the Anacostia Community Museum’s importance to DC and the region, I’m pleased to share that the FY26 Interior Appropriations bill, signed Jan. 23, includes over $3 million in funding for this local and national treasure.
With fire in my soul and the facts on my side, I’ve raised hell about the injustice of denying DC the same rights given to residents of the states for 35 years.   Now, with pride in our accomplishments, gratitude to DC, and confidence in the future, I announced I'll retire at the end of this term.
Federal law enforcement should protect communities, not terrorize them.   DC has seen its own troubling ICE actions that jeopardize trust and public safety.   Federal agencies must protect public safety, respect civil rights, and be held accountable when they don’t.
