Happy Mother's Day! Today I'm thinking of the families who've lost loved ones to homicide. TY Louis D. Brown Peace Institute for convening us at your annual Mother's Day Walk for Peace, a beloved tradition & reminder of the Work that remains to address gun violence & advance healing.

Our elders have spent their lives building our communities, and they deserve to age with dignity, security, and humanity. As Trump, Musk, and Republicans threaten to gut Medicaid, Social Security, and other essential programs, we cannot and will not stand by.
We are united in a shared struggle to disrupt poverty. Because in America, your zip code should not determine your destiny. I joined Mayor Kim Janey and Disrupt Poverty in Washington, DC to affirm that moral mandate and our Work to make that a reality.

To the Republicans who say they oppose slashing Medicaid and food assistance: It's time to put your money where your mouth is. I signed on to a @housedemocrats.bsky.social measure to force a vote on preventing the largest cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in American history.
Trump’s abrupt firing of Dr. Carla Hayden—a history-making Librarian of Congress—is a disgrace. This is just the latest in the GOP's anti-Black assault on truth, education, & history, and firing her will only undermine the Library of Congress as a public good. She deserved better.
BREAKING: President Donald Trump abruptly fires Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden. The dismissal was disclosed in statements from three top House Democrats and confirmed by a separate person familiar with the matter.
With Trump carrying out a coordinated assault on our shared history, it’s imperative that we support our local museums. TY to the Museum of African American History & our leaders for their partnership in telling this hostile, anti-Black White House: hands off our museums & hands off our history.

Rümeysa Öztürk should never have been abducted and unlawfully detained. She is a cherished member of our community and I'm so relieved she is headed home to the #MA7. This is a victory for Rümeysa, for due process, and for our democracy.
Breaking news: A federal judge has ordered the immediate release of Rümeysa Öztürk, the Tufts PhD candidate whose sudden arrest by federal immigration agents made national news.

Republicans' reconciliation bill guts the programs that hold communities together: Medicaid, SNAP, Head Start, and the VA – programs that give people a fighting chance. The cruelty is the point. And we'll do everything we can to stop this cruel budget from becoming law.
We applaud the Second Circuit for rejecting Trump’s attempt to delay complying with my constituent Rümeysa Öztürk's transfer to Vermont. She must be released & have her visa restored. And we’ll continue to ring the alarm loudly until that is the case.
Pressley, Markey, McGovern Applaud Court Decision Ordering Rümeysa Öztürk’s Transfer to Vermont (1/2):

“We applaud the Second Circuit for rejecting the Trump administration’s attempt to delay complying with the district court’s order to transfer Rümeysa Öztürk from Louisiana to Vermont, where she will be closer to her community and to her legal counsel.

“Rümeysa should never have been abducted and transferred thousands of miles away to begin with.
Pressley, Markey, McGovern Applaud Court Decision Ordering Rümeysa Öztürk’s Transfer to Vermont (2/2):

She is being unlawfully detained for writing an op-ed in her school newspaper and has not been charged with a single crime. Last month, we visited Rümeysa in detention in Louisiana, where she faces intolerable conditions and has suffered multiple asthma attacks.

Rümeysa’s case is part of an alarming trend by the Trump administration to trample individuals’ constitutional rights to due process and free speech.

Rümeysa must be released and have her visa restored immediately, and we will continue to ring the alarm loudly until that is the case.”
I join Catholic families in the #MA7 and across the globe in congratulating Pope Leo XIV, the first pontiff from the United States. In the midst of consequential times for America and the world, I pray that he leads with justice, compassion, and inclusivity.
While Occupant Trump dismantles our agencies, attacks federal workers & veterans, and guts essential programs like Medicaid & SNAP—my GOP colleagues just voted on the Gulf of America Act. Republicans aren’t serious about governing or doing the people’s work.
Baby goods like car seats aren’t optional, they’re essential. I pressed Secretary Scott Bessent on Trump tariffs making it harder for families to take care of their babies. Mr. Secretary, I'm glad you committed to taking a look at this. Make it quick, get it done. Families can’t wait.
