I recently spoke at Roosevelt University’s American Dream Reconsidered conference. As a proud Roosevelt alumnus, I was honored to join this discussion on how the Founding Fathers condemned authoritarianism and how we can continue to preserve democracy today.
Under this administration, the average household in my district was forced to spend an additional $5,800 on essentials like housing, healthcare, and groceries. My constituents can’t afford this. To bring prices down, we need to reverse these tariffs and end the war with Iran.
The number of Americans on SNAP has reached the lowest level in 17 years, but the economy hasn’t improved. That means families are going hungry. Make no mistake—this is a direct result of Trump’s Big Ugly Law slashing food stamps with the largest cuts in years.
I enjoyed meeting with our neighbors at Forest Glen Community Club’s annual meeting! It’s always great to meet with our community members and hear their concerns.
I recently joined Metra officials in a press conference to celebrate their new battery-powered trains. As the company begins replacing its diesel-fueled trains with new, zero-emission electric train cars, our communities will enjoy quieter rides, cleaner air, and more sustainable transit.
I recently spoke at a press conference at Endeavor Health Hospital in support of funding for breast cancer research. Endeavor Health is joining the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation's Chicago Breast Cancer Research Consortium.
I’m leading an effort with @repjimcosta.bsky.social and my fellow Co-Chairs of the Ukraine Caucus to make sure the United States delivers on the Russian sanctions we promised. We must continue defending Ukraine and enforce the law we just passed a few weeks ago. Read more below.
Today, my district office in Chicago received a suspicious package similar to those received by elected officials around the nation. We immediately notified the Chicago Police Department and U.S. Capitol Police, and my office evacuated as a precaution.
Three children and a teacher were shot and killed at an Oregon elementary school yesterday. My thoughts are with the Silver Rail Elementary School community, and my deepest condolences go to the victims and their families.
This week, I joined volunteers from the Chicago Food Depository to pack meals for those in need. We packed over 11,000 lbs. of food feeing over 9,000 people. At a time when so many Chicagoans saw their SNAP benefits cut from the Big Ugly Law, we need to ban together and help those most vulnerable.
I’m glad that @congressmanraja.bsky.social, his family, and his entire temple are safe. I hope the perpetrator is brought to justice and I commend the community members who reported the plot, likely saving many lives. The recent wave of anti-Indian racism is deeply concerning. More below.
My family and I were worshipping at our Hindu temple in Aurora on Sunday when a white supremacist attempted a mass shooting targeting Indian Americans. I'm grateful to those who prevented a tragedy, but we must all come together to confront the hatred that put so many innocent lives at risk.
I’m cosponsoring @joaquincastrotx.bsky.social’s Stop the Settlements Act to stop the illegal land grabs in Gaza and the West Bank.  This bill will deploy sanctions to halt the construction of new settlements and stop the expansion of existing Israeli settlements on Palestinian land.
The Stop the Settlements Act would sanction anyone looking to take Palestinian land in the West Bank or Gaza. And support keeps growing. Since I introduced the bill alongside Reps. Dean, Beyer, Casar, Jacobs, and Escobar, over 50 members have now co-sponsored.
If the President really wanted to lower prices for Americans, he would bring our troops home and end his war with Iran immediately. There’s no other solution.
Survivors who speak out display incredible strength and bravery in pursuit of justice. I stand with this woman and applaud the young women who stepped in to protect and defend their friend.   I urge the University to complete a thorough investigation and ensure any perpetrators face consequences.
A 21-year-old woman in Chicago reported that she was sexually assaulted by a man at a fraternity house near the University of Chicago early Sunday, according to the Chicago Police Department. https://cnn.it/47ixiT5
Today is Wadee Remembrance Day in Illinois. Wadee Alfayoumi was a six-year-old American boy who was brutally murdered in a hate crime targeting his Palestinian and Muslim identity.
Donald Trump has spent a decade attacking Rep. Ilhan Omar with disgusting, racist smears, putting her safety at serious risk. This raid was an abuse of power intended to intimidate Rep. Omar and send a message to Trump's political opponents ahead of the midterms. I stand with @ilhanmn.bsky.social
