I guess cutting billions from SNAP in his Big Ugly Bill wasn’t enough for Trump. Now, he’s choosing —yes, this is a choice — to not give families the critical food assistance they need to feed their families.
But under Trump’s tariffs, the cost of Howe’s materials is skyrocketing.
If we’re going to save #USmanufacturing, we need this Trump tariff chaos to end ASAP.
This is Javier. He’s worked at Howe Corporation – a century-old family-owned and operated refrigerator manufacturer – since the ‘70s. Not a lot has changed about the business since then. (continued below)
If the #RepublicanShutdown doesn't end soon, Illinois families on SNAP may not get their benefits on November 1. That's $350 MILLION that could help people feed their families.
Democrats are ready to find a solution — Republicans must come to the table so we can end this shutdown once and for all.
ICE has been spotted in the 5th District this morning. Confirmed sightings are outside the shelter on Foster in the 39th Ward, near 2600 N Racine, and 440 W Belden in the 43rd Ward. Stay safe. Protect your neighbors. #ICIRR #ICEWatch
This morning, I'm joining my colleagues in a shadow hearing on Trump’s assault on Chicago. These thugs have kidnapped innocent people, separated children from their parents, and brought violence to our communities. They must be investigated and held accountable. www.youtube.com/live/Ae9TVow...

I’m in Chicago, hosting a shadow hearing on Trump’s unlawful immigration actions.

Yesterday I volunteered with Greeley Elementary’s walking school bus — where school faculty and staff walk kids to school to protect them and their parents from ICE.
If you can, volunteer with your local school. We're only going to get through this together.

There's only one week left to submit for the Congressional App Challenge.
If you're a middle or high school student from our district with an idea for an app, submit your app for consideration by Thursday, October 30.
Kristi Noem claims ICE is going after criminals, but they’re actually hiring them.
These thugs are not making America safer.

My statement on the raids conducted today in Little Village and Cicero:
I recently joined Terry Moran on his Real Patriotism Substack show. We talked about the rise of tyranny in America, and how ICE is terrorizing Chicago.
This is our city — and these ICE goons can't change that.
That means people are afraid to get food and families are going hungry.
We need these ICE raids to end so we can take care of our community.
I recently volunteered at Hope’s Kitchen at Saint Demetrios Church on the North Side. With ICE wreaking havoc on Chicago, food pantries like these are actually seeing decreased numbers. (continued below)
Ruben has a hearing with a federal judge tomorrow morning, but we’re going to have to keep up the pressure to get him released.

Ruben Torres Maldonado, a Chicago painter for the past 20 years, is still in ICE custody — all while his daughter fights stage 4 cancer.
ICE agents just pulled a gun on Rep. Hoan Huynh — for alerting the community to ICE's presence.
If this can happen to an elected official, it can happen to anyone. I stand with Rep. Huynh and his right to protect our neighbors.

"You guys are targeting the wrong people," she said. "You are targeting hardworking fathers, mothers, kids. They don't deserve it." I agree — and I'm going to fight like hell to get Ruben released. @abc7chicago.bsky.social
For the past 20 years, Ruben Torres Maldonado has been a painter in Chicago. Ruben's been working weekends to support his family, including his 16-year-old daughter, Ofelia — a Lake View High School student fighting Stage 4 cancer. That is until ICE detained him this weekend at a Home Depot.
