That’s why I am proud to be a cosponsor of the Protecting Our Democracy Act (PODA), a critical piece of legislation that would strengthen the legal infrastructure of our democracy against presidents and other officials who abuse their power for personal gain.

As Members of Congress, we are responsible for conducting oversight to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and well.
Meanwhile, reports of inadequate food and medical care, sexual harassment, and at least three detainee deaths indicate that the processing center may be violating basic humanitarian standards.
The private prison company uses people our government has detained to do most of the labor at the “processing center.”
Federal law is clear that immigration detention is only for the purpose of ensuring attendance at hearings and for imminent deportation. Some of those sent to Moshannon were detained when they showed up for their hearings! T
The private prison company has reported record profits driven by this Administration’s mass deportation and immigrant surveillance campaigns. Over $5 million per month is spent at Moshannon to imprison more than 1,600 people, the majority of whom have NO CRIMINAL CHARGES.
Today I led PA House Dems in pressing ICE, GEO, and Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, for transparency on the use of taxpayer dollars to fund the private prison company that runs Moshannon Valley Processing Center, the largest detention center in the Northeast.
