This is a huge victory for the American people after the Administration and the GOP tried to withhold food from 42 million people. The courts have spoken—they will release the funds.
It’s Day 34 of the Shutdown, and Trump is CHOOSING to withhold food from 42 million Americans.
Meanwhile, he’s building a gilded ballroom and threw a lavish Great Gatsby party at his private club for himself and his billionaire friends. This is a “let them eat cake” moment if there ever was one.

Two judges have just ordered that the Trump Administration must release funds for SNAP benefits. The GOP and Admin trying to use hungry kids as political leverage is beyond morally reprehensible. And it’s against the law.
This is undemocratic. For over 40 days, the U.S. House of Representatives has been out of session—votes cancelled, refusing to swear in Adelita Grijalva, refusing to recognize democrats, and refusing to negotiate to reopen the government, feed children, and fix healthcare. We are fighting back!
SNAP provides ~$6 a day—which is just enough to help keep families from going hungry, but never enough to get ahead. If funds don’t go out, millions will wake up Saturday without money for groceries.
This can be averted. Trump’s USDA must release contingency funds already approved by Congress!
Hunger is a policy choice.
From our SNAP Back Act in the House, to the Senate, to our Governor & State Legislature, to our Attorney General and food banks, we are working on all fronts to make sure New Mexicans can put food on the table as this food crisis is being manufactured by the White House.

Letting 42 million Americans go without food this weekend—half of whom are children—is WRONG and a CHOICE.
The funds are there, but the White House is trying to leverage hungry kids for a political agenda. Mr. President, American lives are not a political game, and we are not here to play.
In case I’ve not made myself clear—no family in America should go hungry. Period.
Trump’s decision to withhold SNAP is unconscionable and immoral. The GOP needs to come back to DC and reopen the government. And the Admin needs to release the funds so families can put food on the table on Saturday.
Let’s be clear here—Trump has the funds to ensure 42 million Americans don’t lose access to SNAP benefits on Saturday. But, they are CHOOSING to let Americans starve.
That’s why I introduced the SNAP BACK Act today—to ensure families are fed.
We will not let Americans starve.
Cutting off food for children, elders, and veterans is wrong. Period.

Just flew in from Albuquerque and had to come down to see the White House for myself.
As our communities are facing a crisis—Trump is CHOOSING to cut off food assistance to 40 million Americans—while building a $300 million ballroom for himself.
Cruelty is the point.
Cutting families off from food assistance is unacceptable. I joined over 200 Members of Congress in calling on the Admin to release SNAP funding. We are also dropping legislative language to force the Admin to release this funding and supporting states in taking legal action to release those funds.
NM, even in the most challenging times—your grit, determination and heart give me hope and purpose for the work ahead.
Today, I head back to DC to continue our fight to reopen the government, address the food and healthcare crisis facing our communities, and fight for our democracy.
