As a proud Okinawan, I was honored to join the 43rd Okinawan Festival celebrating 125 years of Okinawan immigration to Hawaiʻi. Grateful for the contributions of the uchinanchu and for a day of traditions, andagi & aloha. Mahalo to Governor Tamaki for joining us for this special occasion!
Honored to join the Hawai’i Coalition for Civil Rights Kickoff— including groups like HSTA, ACLU & former colleagues at the State Leg. Mahalo for defending democracy and always advocating for the rights of every person, no matter their race, religion, gender, orientation, or immigration status.
Met with the Hawaiʻi Food Coalition to talk story about the cuts by Trump and Republicans to SNAP & other federal programs that put food on tables. I am pushing back on the administration’s misguided priorities & advocating for programs that support our local families, small farmers & food systems.
This is not the first time we've lived through atrocities, discrimination & disinformation. As we fight against this administration's attempts to infringe on our civil rights, we need everyone to come together, be truth speakers & ensure our story is not erased from history. We will not go back.
Trump’s cuts to public broadcasting are hurting our local radio stations like KKCR, trusted sources of information during tsunami warnings and on every other day of the year. Mahalo Annie at KKCR & all of our public radio stations for continued service despite these devastating funding cuts.
Honored to join the ILWU Pensioners Labor Day Celebration in Hilo & recognize the incredible history & strength of Local 142. Mahalo for never backing down in the fight for job safety, health care and pensions for all workers. Always happy to help judge the Dress To Impress & Dessert Contests! 🍰
Stopped by KONG radio to talk with Ron Wiley, joined Councilmember Bulosan’s roundtable discussing impacts of the Big Ugly Bill, visited HHSC’s Kapaʻa clinic to hear from frontline providers & toured the YWCA of Kauaʻi to learn about their critical work supporting survivors.
Mahalo to the team at Tripler for the insightful walk and talk tour & the behavioral health providers who hosted this roundtable. Hearing directly from those on the frontlines of care is critical as we work to improve access, staffing, and support for our military families.
Met with MauiWES to see how they track long-term health impacts on wildfire survivors & talked with UHERO about Hawai‘i’s economic forecast & Maui’s recovery. Mahalo for all your work to find answers for survivors & helping our islands prepare for future disasters.
Visited Marine Corps Base Hawai'i to connect with our service members & military families and discuss how we can improve their quality of life—from child care, health care and safety from domestic abuse & sexual assault. I am committed to ensuring all our personnel can live safely & comfortably.
Honored to help open and welcome everyone to the ALA Food Show! A great opportunity for Hawai'i businesses to show off their unique local products to military commisaries and exchanges. Their sales help power our economy while giving our military communities reliable access to quality goods. Mahalo!
Mahalo Hawai‘i LGBT Legacy Foundation for hosting this Rainbow Town Hall to discuss federal rollbacks on LGBTQIA+ rights and protections & the impact in Hawaiʻi. Everyone deserves to feel safe and protected & I will continue to stand with you against any attacks that harm your right to live freely.
Went on NewsNation to discuss the Trump-Putin summit. Trump promised a ceasefire, but we got silence while Putin walked away with red carpet treatment & a fighter jet escort. Peace takes more than tough talk. We must protect Ukraine’s sovereignty & stop kowtowing to Russia.
I'm back standing strong with my Local 5 & HNHP 'ohana on this day of action, telling Kaiser: Enough is enough! Proud to stand with these critical healthcare workers to fight for fair pay and safe staffing levels—buildings don't care for people, our healthcare workers do.
Happy to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Social Security with our AARP ʻohana! This week, Sen. Hirono & I honored the day by introducing the Protecting and Preserving Social Security Act, to strengthen benefits & ensure Social Security will continue to serve future generations.
Met with Pacific Rim Land & LĪPOA to discuss affordable housing, strong defense partnerships, protecting our ‘āina and clean energy and infrastructure investments in Maui. We have a shared kuleana to create jobs, support local families & honor our community's unique needs as we look to the future.
Congrats Hawaiian Community Assets for earning your official charter as a member of NeighborWorks America! Mahalo for your 25 years helping local families navigate housing challenges, providing counseling, financial empowerment & more. Here's to many more years helping people across our islands.
Bu & I stopped by KWXX & B97to chat about my full day on both sides of the Big Island, which included a fireside chat at Kona Community Hospital and a visit with Kumukahi Health in Hilo. Mahalo for providing quality healthcare and support to our communities + teaching me how to clack!
