Four years ago, Cubans bravely took to the streets to demand freedom from the brutal Cuban regime. The oppression hasn’t stopped, but neither has their fight. We must keep standing with the Cuban people in their struggle for liberty. 🇨🇺 #PatriayVida #11J
That’s why, by way of a congressional resolution, I am encouraging members of Congress to visit ICE Detention centers to provide oversight in order to maintain some semblance of dignity and accountability.
For every dollar a white man earns, Black women earn 66 cents. That is unacceptable and it’s about damn time Black women get paid equally. So on this #BlackWomensEqualPayDay, we must recommit ourselves to closing the wage gap.
Congratulations to Miami Schools for another year achieving an A-Rating! Miami-Dade County Public Schools continues to excel and as a former educator, Principal, and Miami-Dade School Board member, nothing makes me happier than to see our schools thrive!
My office is still taking internship applications for the fall in DC and Miami. We’re offering paid Communications and Legislative internships and the deadline to apply is July 15th! If you know any bright minds who should apply, make sure you send them our way!
Happy Independence Day! Let us continue the fight for our nation’s values of freedom, justice, and equality—today and every day. Stay safe, South Florida, and have a blessed day. 🇺🇸🎇
This bill is now headed to the President’s desk. I hope voters will remember this day of betrayal. The Democratic Party may not win this battle, but we will win the war. We must continue the fight and heal this nation for the sake of its people. God almighty is on our side.
I represent an immigrant rich community, and I cannot fathom the fact that we are also kicking millions off healthcare and food assistance programs just to throw money at ICE in order to antagonize our immigrant communities, like with Alligator Alcatraz.
I’m a former schoolteacher and Principal and I cannot fathom the fact that children will go hungry from this bill when they go to school without eating thanks to SNAP cuts and getting kicked off free and reduced lunch.
17M will lose their health care, 5M will lose access to SNAP, 15.6M children will have free and reduced lunch impacted, 1.4M students will lose their Pell grants, and the 42M borrowers with student debt can expect increased payments—all to give tax breaks to billionaires.
🧵This is one of the most vicious, heartless, and morally bankrupt pieces of legislation I have ever seen in my time in Congress. People will die from this bill, hospitals will close, and folks will go hungry thanks to Medicaid and food assistance being cut.
It’s 8 PM and I’m here outside the Capitol speaking on why I’m voting ‘NO’ on the Big Ugly Bill. Children will go hungry because of this bill—from cuts to SNAP to students being kicked off free and reduced lunch. This bill cannot pass!
I’m voting ‘NO’ on the Big, Ugly Bill. It kicks 16 million people off their healthcare, strips millions off SNAP, all to give tax breaks to billionaires. This bill is now in the House of Representatives. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AND TELL THEM TO VOTE ‘NO’: 202-224-3121
As we close out June, I want to wish everyone a Happy Caribbean American Heritage Month! South Florida is proud of its vibrant Caribbean communities—Cuban, Haitian, Bahamian, and more. This month, and every month, we celebrate their culture, contributions, and legacy.
