Great to spend time with leaders in the blind and low vision community at the 55th Annual Convention of National Federation of the Blind Rhode Island. Health and accessibility go hand-in-hand. I’ll keep working to repeal Trump’s Medicaid cuts & protect our care.
Honored to participate in the Northern Rhode Island Out of Darkness Walk to Prevent Suicide. Proud of the hope & resilience in our community. That’s why I’m fighting in Congress to ensure every American can get needed mental & behavioral health care. Lives are on the line.
Can YOU afford your health care costs to double?  Some Rhode Islanders will see their health insurance costs soar by 200% unless Republicans act. Republicans must come to the table and make a deal to stop the cuts, lower costs, and protect health care.
The Providence Veterans Affairs Regional Benefits Office is closed.   The Republican shutdown is leaving staff without pay and Veterans without services. Republicans need to come to the table to protect Americans’ health care and reopen the government.
Stopped by Coast Guard Station Castle Hill in Newport to thank the men and women protecting our waters, especially since they're not getting paid during the shutdown.   I’ll continue to have the backs of those in service to our nation. We must end the shutdown and save health care.
Joined ABC News Live to discuss the Trump and Republicans’ disastrous government shutdown that’s leaving Americans poorer and sicker. I’m fighting to end the cuts, lower costs, and save health care. Watch here 📺
Visited Brown University’s Legorreta Cancer Center to discuss how Trump & Republicans’ government shutdown & funding cuts harm cancer research. Their work to improve cancer prevention & treatment is amazing. We must fight to protect lifesaving research & Americans' health care.
Republicans shut down the government to further their agenda of hurting Americans across the country.  They MUST come to the table to fund the government and end the health care crisis they created.
The Republican shutdown will force service members and federal law enforcement officials to work without pay and throw the lives of millions of federal employees, including 8,595 Rhode Islanders, into uncertainty.
For RI Small Business owners: SBA WILL STOP processing NEW business loan applications and the Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Program will continue operations.  All borrowers are still REQUIRED to make payments on their SBA loans during the Republican shutdown.
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services will remain open to process applications during the Republican shutdown. However, certain systems may not be online. Contact my Rhode Island office at (401) 729-5600 with any questions.
Throughout the Republican shutdown, travelers may experience longer wait times at TSA checkpoints or delays and cancellations.  Air traffic controllers, TSA officers, and Customs & Border Protection agents will remain on the job without pay. Be kind to them if you’re traveling!
Essential nutrition programs like SNAP and WIC will continue to operate in the short term.  If Republicans don't come to the table, however, funding for these programs may quickly run out, forcing benefits to stop.
All Veterans Affairs benefits will continue to be processed, and VA medical facilities will remain OPEN.  But VA call centers, hotlines, and regional offices will shutter because of the Republican shutdown.
Rhode Islanders will continue to receive their Social Security and SSI checks, and Medicare/Medicaid benefits WILL NOT be affected.  But the Republican shutdown will increase wait times at the SSA and CMS.
🚨Trump and Republicans shut down the government because they refuse to reverse health care cuts and lower health care costs for millions of Americans. As a result, a wide range of government services will be disrupted. 🧵Here’s what you need to know:
