“We applaud the leadership of @beyer.house.gov & Rep Don Bacon for introducing the Improving Reporting to Prevent Hate Act and look forward to working together to ensure its passage.”

We can stop Trump's tariffs from wrecking the economy if enough members are willing to stand up to Trump and reclaim Congress' constitutional authority.

Text + cosponsor lists for each bill-
Prevent Tariff Abuse Act:

Congressional Trade Authority Act:
congress.gov/bill/119th-c...
Repealing Outdated and Unilateral Tariff Authorities Act:
congress.gov/bill/119th-c...
Reclaim Trade Powers Act:
congress.gov/bill/119th-c...
And similarly, @usrepjimmypanetta.bsky.social's Reclaim Trade Powers Act, which I also cosponsored, addresses potential abuses of tariff authorities using Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. We are working to address different contingencies with these bills:

Today, I introduced the Reclaim Trade Powers Act, legislation that would strip outdated presidential tariff powers and ensure that major trade decisions require Congressional approval.

Trump reportedly has been exploring using additional authorities he can abuse to impose tariffs, including Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930.
@repschneider.bsky.social's Repealing Outdated and Unilateral Tariff Authorities Act addresses that (I'm a cosponsor):
bsky.app/profile/reps...
Trump imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum, with lumber and copper coming and possibly medicines and computer chips to follow, using Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.
My Congressional Trade Authority Act, again with @repdelbene.bsky.social, addresses this:
bsky.app/profile/beye...
Trump is drunk on power and unleashing economic chaos. Congress must take back its constitutional power over trade policy to prevent economic disaster and protect our alliances. Introducing the Congressional Trade Authority Act with @repdelbene.bsky.social to do that:
beyer.house.gov/news/documen...
The "universal" tariffs Trump imposed yesterday, along with his tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China use authorities in the International Emergency Economy Powers Act (IEEPA).
@repdelbene.bsky.social and I responded by introducing the Prevent Tariff Abuse Act:
bsky.app/profile/repd...
Trump has promised sweeping tariffs on imports. Tariffs are fees that Americans will pay to the tune of thousands of dollars a year. I introduced legislation to require any president to come to Congress before implementing such sweeping economic changes.
www.kuow.org/stories/wa-c...
Each Trump tariff uses specific legal authorities.
He's abusing them in ways their authors did not intend.
I'm working with my @waysmeanscmte.bsky.social Trade Subcommittee colleagues on legislation to reform those authorities and stop Trump from wrecking the economy.
Info on those bills—

Trump is raising costs and tanking our economy.
Statement from New Dem chair @repschneider.bsky.social and Trade & Tariffs Task Force Chair @beyer.house.gov on Trump's 25% tax on all automobile imports and massive taxes on on virtually every good imported from every U.S. trading partner ⬇️
I was surprised to get an invitation to meet with Secretary McMahon at the Department of Education, but it was important for her to hear directly from me about the harm she and Trump are inflicting on my constituents, and on students and educators across the country.

We don’t have to let Trump wreck our economy with tariffs—that’s a choice.
The Constitution gives trade authority to Congress, not the President.
Congress delegated tariff powers to the President and we can take them back.
We have the bills (one is mine). We just need enough support to pass them.

WH has now confirmed: this is insane nypost.com/2025/04/02/u...
Trump's mass tariffs are stupid and would be the largest tax increase in history.
Trump likes tariffs because he's a bully, because he's an authoritarian, because he doesn't care who gets hurt.
Our bills would stop this. Republicans are nowhere to be found.

Shockingly, Mike Waltz' investigation of himself turned up none of this. Amazing how that works!
This scandal is corrupt as hell. Waltz and top officials like Hegseth and Gabbard involved in this egregious breach of security must go, and we need a special counsel to investigate.
The United States Institute of Peace is a private, independent nonprofit not a federal agency.
Trump and Musk have no more authority to take it over than they have to seize assets of the American Red Cross or replace the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops with Elon Musk’s young stooges.
What happened today at the Department of Health and Human Services is a disgraceful way to treat anyone, much less the people who devote their careers to public health.
Firing these people makes all of us less safe.

I've argued everywhere I can that what Trump and Musk have done at USAID is completely illegal. We are fighting in court to defend this vital agency and its workers, who have done so much to save lives and build American influence around the world.

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
