I’ve been here all night fighting back against the trash budget that will hurt millions of Americans.
Quick update from the Capitol tonight.
Last night, I introduced several amendments to try to make the trash bill better.
I tried to stop the cuts to rural hospitals, Planned Parenthood, and SNAP, but Republicans said no.
So I’ll be voting no on the budget – it’s bad for my constituents and bad for America.
While Republicans are busy fighting amongst themselves about how to tear healthcare away from millions of Americans, Democrats stand united against this trash budget.
I went to the House Floor with the Congressional Black Caucus to demand that protections for Medicaid and SNAP be included in the budget.
Every time we asked, Republicans said no. Over, and over, and over again.
They’re cutting key programs we rely on – that’s unacceptable.
Constituents from all across my district wrote in about the ways the “Big, Beautiful Bill” will be harmful to them and their families.
Here are some of their stories.
Checking in from the Capitol where I’m ready to vote no on the trash budget.
They’re putting humans in cages in one of the most inhospitable environments in the country.
I’m leading a letter to ICE and DHS with @frost.house.gov to demand:
1. They close the facility immediately.
2. They treat all detainees at all facilities with the dignity and respect they deserve.
When the President visited “Alligator Alcatraz,” a makeshift, unsafe, overcrowded detention center for immigrants in the Everglades, he called it “so professional, so well done.”
Nothing about this is well-done – it’s inhumane and cruel.
And that’s the point.
I was disappointed, but not surprised that these amendments were all rejected by the Republicans on the Rules Committee.
I’ll be voting against this bill because I will always stand with America’s families and America’s children, and I won’t leave Oregonians behind.

My other amendments focus on protecting consumers from bad actors and lowering costs for my constituents, because that’s what I came here to do.
I’m unwilling to put my constituents on the chopping block to put more money in the pockets of billionaires.

My third amendment would make sure that the money being allocated to ICE isn’t used for body snatching.
I’m sick of the state-sponsored fear-mongering at grocery stores and schools. It’s un-American, and I won’t be using my vote to support it.

Quality of care should not be determined by zip code. Healthcare is a human right – we need to make sure all of our neighbors can receive the help they need, when they need it, and without breaking the bank.

Without these clinics around the country, millions will lose access to cancer screenings, contraception, and other life-saving care.

Medicaid allows my constituent, Rose, to receive physical therapy for her ultra-rare genetic syndrome. Republicans are trying to take it away from her.
When I vote no against the budget bill today, I’ll be thinking of Rose.
When the Trump Admin cut funding for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership, they threatened Oregon businesses – so we fought back, and we won.
Today, we’re celebrating over $2 million in funding heading to the program to support job creation & our local economies.

Over 180,000 people in my district could lose healthcare if Republicans have their way.
This is the largest cut to Medicaid in our nation's history – it's a pretty big deal.
